Where We Belong
Read Southall Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The roads long and it ain't paved well.
Sleep stage and another motel. It ain't always heaven, but it beats the hell outta staying home.

Learned some things when i left there. It's a big world and no one really cares. Who you were. Only what you will become.

With a chest full of air. We'll find a way to get where we belong.

Sleepless nights and misused mornings. The keep it downs and the last warnings. You can't stay gone forevers, you can always come back homes. Don't take for granted what you're given it's all there for you if you'll go get it. Find yourself some friends and get out there on the road.

With a chest full of air, we'll find a way to get where we belong.
Anywhere but there I'm certain that's where we belong.

With a chest full of air, we'll find a way to get where we belong.
Anywhere but there I'm certain that's where we belong.

Overall Meaning

The song Where We Belong by the Read Southall Band is an anthem for all those who feel stuck in life and want to break free from the monotony. The lyrics effectively convey the idea that life is not always easy, and sometimes one has to go through sleepless nights, misused mornings, and lowly motels to find where they truly belong. The first verse highlights the struggles and challenges that one has to face while traveling on the road, but even in such difficult times, it's still better than staying home. The second verse speaks of the lessons learned while traveling which are different from those learned at home. In the real world, people don't care who you were; what matters is who you will become.

The chorus "With a chest full of air, we'll find a way to get where we belong. Anywhere but there, I'm certain that's where we belong" is the soul of the song. It speaks of the determination that lies within each one of us to find our place in the world, to leave behind the mundane and ordinary, and to make our mark in the world. The song concludes with the idea that one should never take for granted the opportunities that come their way and find friends to embark on this journey.

Lyrics:
The road's long and it ain't paved well
Sleep, stage, and another motel
It ain't always heaven
But it beats the hell outta staying home

I learned some things when I left there
It's a big world and no one really cares
Who you were
Only what you will become

With a chest full of air
We'll find a way to get where we belong

Sleepless nights and misused mornings
Keep it downs and the last warnings
You can't stay gone forever
Been away for far too long

Don't take for granted what you're given
It's all there for you if you'll go get it
And find yourself some friends
Get out on the road

With a chest full of air
We'll find a way to get where we belong
Anywhere but there
I'm certain that's where we belong

With a chest full of air
We'll find a way to get where we belong
Anywhere but there
I'm certain that's where we belong

Anywhere but there
I'm certain that's where we belong
With a chest full of air
We'll find a way to get where we belong
