The band currently consists of Martin Courtney (vocals, guitar), Alex Bleeker (bass), Julian Lynch (guitar), Matt Kallman (keyboards), and Sammi Niss (drums). Former members include Matthew Mondanile (guitar), Etienne Pierre Duguay (drums), Jonah Maurer (keyboards), and Jackson Pollis (drums).

The band has released six albums since their formation: "Real Estate" (2009), "Days" (2011), "Atlas" (2014), "In Mind" (2017), "The Main Thing" (2020), and "Daniel" (2024).

I used to work there back in 2013-2017 and I will never forget an old gentlemen that was called Brocoli-Rob at the Palace. He was such a genuine and kind soul - and boy did he become a party-animal whenever we had some fun events at the Palace, where alcohol and great food + entertainment was involved.
It didn't matter that he was 83 the year that he literally ate 13 boiled brocoli's - and ever since then, he became known as Brocoli-Rob by everybody living and working there.

No one wants to go to a home, but if people don’t save for retirement there’s not much else to do. Adult kids have to work the,selves to save up for their retirement. They can’t give up their jobs and their retirements to stay home to help the elderly toddle from the couch to bed. And if they have kids, especially special needs kids, then it would be very selfish to expect the adult kids to take on another demanding role. Our retirements are on us, especially if we want to avoid nursing homes.

@Madronaxyz you nailed it. With 1500 $ a month you live a great life in Thailand or the Philippines that includes a private caregiver and most of all they do care because they respect the elderly. The young generation here don't respect the old people....I am old...

The entire concept of retirement homes and assisted living communities is based on one extremely important foundation: Having genuinely happy employees who feel that they work at the right place for the right reasons - coming happy to work and looking forward to every day at work. That translates to great service and a positive atmosphere for the residents, making them happier and healthier. Which, of course, is great for the business - making it easier to find and keep the perfect people for the jobs.

Marble floors and chrystal chandeliers are all nice, but the wonderful thing about The Palace (based on the video and several comments below) seems to be that it is a great place to work at - and that is just inspiring to see. If the luxury would be removed, residents would still live in a happy and positive environment. But if the smiles of the staff would be removed, the luxury wouldn't be much of a help...

Keep up the wonderful work and take care of eachother, residents as well as colleagues! And thank you for a good dose of inspiration for someone like me, who has a somewhat related front-desk job. My job will never make me rich, but I am at the right place for the right reasons - and the feeling of going to work happy every day is actually a kind of luxury in itself.

That looks like a fantastic place to work and live if you can afford it. The entertainment coordinator is fantastic. You can tell she loves her job. She's creative, she pays attention to detail and she's pushy. Thst's how she gets things done. The entire staff is wonderful and no detail is left unnoticed. Wonderful. This is a grand place and a great idea by the owners. No one else has a place like this. 💕❣🌹🌸✌👍

I love this. My mom was in a rehabilitation home over the summer. They had Walmart trips, chef's dinners and themed dinners, hair salon appointments, and someone came and did their nails. All the activities keep them busy and socializing. Felt bad for her roommate who was in her 50s and bedridden due to her doctor. Hope she wins her lawsuit for malpractice. 🪬✌🏼💕😊

Looks like a wonderful place to work , it must be hard to live in Florida as an elderly person ,with the heat & humidity. I have been a few times on vacation, the last few time the humidity & pollen got to my breathing. They must spend most of the summer indoors in the air conditioner.

This is very frightening to see. The shallowness and horrifying society we live in now. It's so sad and makes me not want to live on earth again. How dare these people parade around like they are above every body. When millions of intelligent hard working elderly people who gave us our freedoms and wisdom are treated deplorable because they lack the financial backing to live in dignity and respect in their final years. First off no matter what religion you are or job title you have we ALL deserve respect as aging adults! You all will get old one day and you better hope that you have one person in your life who will care about you enough to see that you are cared for properly and NOT for profit!!!! Thank God we don't have to stay on this shallow plastic surgery phoney earth forever!!!! You can't take anything with you only the kindness you gave to others with or without money!!!! God help us all!!!!

Choice is a privilege…After watching this I still believe in aging in an extended family context, even if you are not related. Adding/contributing to others daily life, no matter age is life giving 😊, and when its time to be on the receiving end there will be people of all ages to help with the care.

There are a lot of really nice retirement homes across the US. They come at different levels of affordability. There are many good ones in a lower price range. My father's was nice. It had low-pile carpet, to accommodate walkers, but didn't have marble floors . It had happy hour every afternoon at four, but the champagne wasn't included, nor were hors d'oeuvres, except on Fridays. The other afternoons simply had pretzels and popcorn bowls set out, and the residents had to be served out of their own liquor locker, which they were responsible for stocking. So his place was not ultra, but it was still nice. the food was good, and the socializing was beneficial for him, as he was widowed.

Yea, these do exist all over the country. I visited one in Downtown Chicago on Michigan Avenue that you bought in like a timeshare for 1,000,000 and you could live there till the end, or until you need assisted living. Then you would sell your timeshare or your family would inherit it. Something like that. But it was also the palace concept.

That's what I was thinking too, we have 1 here n I use to do personal care there n it is very nice n they can go on outings n the senior citizens center if able to on certain days n they provide meals on wheels to the seniors out in community that aren't able to attend daily, it's a great senior program too ❗... My mom had meals on wheels n we'd wash n return the containers each day as they brought a healthy lunch for her too 💖❗... There's many resources you just have to ask n apply for them if they aren't capable too ❗...

Not many of us can afford to live out our lives in such a Grand place like The Palace! Besides, I don't live in Miami,and have zero plans to move there. I am 73, am having mobility issues and, even though it's cold and gets decent snow usually, I miss my best friend since 4th grade (which without doing the math, was a very long time ago), and the Northern Atlantic Ocean, which is where I grew up. It's true that children want to be you to be safe, but are busy living their lives with jobs, homes & friends. All 3 aren't having kids, and I had them too. I think back when I was their age and half way (moved there by ex)across the country from family and friends. Now 2 of my kids, both sons are married. And you know what "they say" about when they take a wife. I really like both daughters-in-law and they make my sons happy. My daughter took a job in Texas,married a Texan who is great for her, but I only get to see her every 5 years for milestone birthdays and it's just too hard for me to travel anymore. So I stay where I am so far. There are nice Senior places around here, but nothing like the Palace! Good thing, because when I have to move, I couldn't afford it anyway. I even wonder if I will be able to afford afford what's available. My big fear is I will end up in the " Nursing Home " that we all have seen. I wonder if all those who are at the Palace realize how truly blessed they are to have that place as their last home?

you really think they are blessed ??? I watched it twice now and believe me, they cant stand eachother. They fight over a choir next door because they feel desturbed when they play cards. Can you imagine the jealousy going on in there because one has 20 SF more than the other ?.This Pamela speaks like a baby to the guests.
Don't fear your future ...it is all about how you approach it. I am 71 and I volunteer in nursing homes. I rather be there instead of listening to the what have and what have not.

@Tiger Lily Girl We all want to be comfortable but this life maybe yours but I would despise it, all they talk about is their wealth. Not the kind of folks I want to hang out with. My parents could have had a nice retirement but they choose to live in a developing country, giving back to the people. They worked tirelessly helping the poor but you can see the genuine smiles on their faces on all their photographs. I visited them but I couldn't find time to be with them. Their house was the place in the village where everyone came to for help or all kinds, from filling and understanding documents as they couldn't read or write, to all kinds of problems and the entire village children were in the living room all day, and the women were there at night watching television as it was the only place with a large television and with a satellite disk, that was installed just for them. Some times my dad would watch sports with the men in the village. People adored them for being so giving of themselves. They were people that always believed in giving back. They were also Catholic.

I volunteer in Veteran Homes and not all of them are old like me. I find young veterans who served for this country and they have real problems. Why don't you visit a nursing home near you and get an idea about what I mean....kind regards

I'm so happy for the residents there. My parents never cared for their parents in their elderly years. My sister and I were there for both our parents during different health events, but we were not going to become primary care takers in their last years. I've let my daughter know in no uncertain terms that she is not to become my caretaker either. I want her to enjoy her life, stay my daughter and not become my nurse. Other families may view this differently and that's OK too.

I'm with you, I cared for my parent's 11 years total n my kids missed so much being tied to their life being Me caring for them n now my body is broken from nursing care before my parents, raising 9 kids, 2 Biological but they're all brother n sisters still being grown n support each other also ❌⭕❌⭕❗... I know it's coming n I told them but my son is still in the mindset of caring for us
💞💖💞, I think I will be more of a parent in a home not 🚫 having to tie them down revolving around Drs n our care 😢💔❗... I want them all to continue their lives n travel with my grandkids 💖💟💖❗

I totally agree with that. I don’t want to be a burden to my daughters, we enjoy each other’s company and laugh a lot together and I want it if at possible for it to stay that way I don’t want them to resent or not look forward to seeing me. This is great if you have the money for it. I used to make deliveries to one in WPB and it wasn’t so luxurious, but the flats/apartments where huge, and the facility was huge too, but to live there it was over a million dollars a year to live there. I was like OMG 😮I could imagine what it cost to live in this facility

Excellent doc. I appreciate how you show the shadow aspects of moving there. No life is free of suffering.
My comment is:
This is another example of capitalism gone wild in America. Everyone wishes their parents could live this well, but the vast majority of American elders live in variations on prison warehouses.
It'd be far more reasonable to have socialized medicine, where daycares and nursing homes are standard and well-regulated.
Americans love to idolize the excesses of the rich, and pretend that could be me someday, but this system is what is making your grandma suffer in that shithole.

They didn't show you the bad parts..Like folks with on set dementia or worse. Some can be very rude when they don't get their way.
It is all superficial. They have only a few years like she said, mostly 3 years, and then they need to move into a nursing facility. Some may die on you. Some will have a heart attack and the ER will turn the dinning room into a triage center. I don't think it is all that great.

I worked in a home that had a post office,ice-cream parlor, library, bird Avery, fish room,music room,activities galore,beautiful rooms,great dining, I loved it,but yet I loved working in a State run home also,NO air conditioning in the entire place,not even a fan,don't know how I lasted working there.

I am 56 and I would prefer death to living in a place like that. Still, I am glad that the residents seem quite happy with living there. But the overall energy in retirement communities does not suit me for some odd reason.

However now at 73 with 2 new hips and 1, pending 2, new shoulders, l realise it would be overall safer as I have lost my balance and confidence. etc. I would like to be in such a lovely compassionate retirement complex, especially seeing the genuine care shown from the employees to the residents. Also, most of the residents appear to be having fun and really enjoying their lives.

Yes, that drew my attention as well. I'm only in my early 60's but have a condition that can lead to fainting if not properly controlled. Two head injuries later, flooring, windows, stairs and even furniture placement and materials have become focal points in where and how I live.

I think I am the lone voice here , but I would just hate it . That way of living , and the people living it are so very much not my sort of thing . To be happy there one would need to be accustomed to that life beforehand . Not all affluent people live that way , so it’s not just a matter of finances . All that opulence of decor , dining , dressing and so on I would despise . I would prefer , for want of a better word , wholesomeness. It is lovely of course that the older members of society are not shelved somewhere bored and disheartened, but I hope I snuff it before I need to consider such places.

my parents could have had a great retirement but they instead moved to a poor country and worked to uplift the people there. They were genuinely happy although I missed them as they had no time for me as they were very, very busy. I realize now, i was being selfish. They were Catholic.

I'm sure they are aware of which patients can safely drink. When I worked as a hospice RN with very sick people, the doctors used to say, if a patient is still mentally well and wants a drink, in the end, why keep it from them if it will make them happy?

There might be people out there who see some of these people being bossy and crabby as rude, but please understand that this is displaced aggression. It's a response to not having control and trying to control whatever minutia that they can control, and it's often something mundane. When I work with the elderly I have to remember that it's not all about me. Is it frustrating? Yep. But again it's not me that they're upset with, it's the whole situation. Also, when they make poor decisions (usually re: their perceived mobility vs. their actual abilities) I have to walk a fine line. After all, I'm going to have to do to the follow-up after the fall and the paperwork. And they are always so sad afterwards, understanding that they messed up. Taking the upper hand and controlling them or allowing them to fall, we walk that fine line all of the time. It's like dealing with children, but children that you must respect for their (usually) wiseness.

The test for what l think of this enterprise is how they manage their assisted living tenants. At the current average of $5k a month in Washington state, everyone in an assisted living home should be living quite comfortably but what l see are organizations what l see are facilities that cannot stay fully staffed bcse they don't compensate their employees enough. And one home in Pullman with 75 residents (75x5k=375k monthly) that run out of diapers and store the patient lifts in an unused room to avoid being categorized accurately.

My parents did well and could have retired in comfort but they did the opposite, they moved to a poor country and gave back until their deaths. I was a bit annoyed with them then because I thought they could haved relaxed and enjoyed themselves like these folks, but they choose to instead live and work helping the poor.
I flew there to spend time with them, but I barely had 5 mins with them. I disliked it then as there were so many people that were constantly in the house looking for help, most illiterate and they needed their paperwork filled and i dad was there from morning to evening helping them understand everything. I was amazed how word got out like wild fire, that there two people there that will help them for free in helping them in all kinds of areas, as it was unbelievable how many people were there.
They working thru the Catholic Church. However most of the people they helped were mostly other faiths, so religion was never a factor. The living room was always full of kids watching television because they didn't have one at their homes. Before there even woke up there were people waiting outside to come in for some kind of assistance. They were helping people from morning to night I couldn't get any privacy with them. I kinda resented it then because I wanted them to myself. But I realize now I was being selfish.
I don't know if being Catholic is why they choose to live that way instead of living in the Palace??
I had to accept that was their lives and they were very happy. When they died, the amount of people that came to wish us, and although some were bare feet, you could feel their warmth. It was a special feeling. When people have fewer processions they are able to contact to your soul much more.
I felt they could have lived longer if they chosen medical in a developed country and they had the money for it but they gave their money away and accepted their faith. i now understand that once your time is up why prolong it and spend all that money, when a poor kid is struggling to just buy a school book to read.
I would have liked if they lived in a place like this, but that is not what they wanted. All their lives they gave back, even until the end. Now I am proud of them.
I feel majority of these people at this Palace are a very selfish bunch!!! These are the people that always took, took and took from this world. They are parasites. They think they are better than anyone else and entitled to the biggest piece of the pie!

Friends of ours gave their young married children their inheritance while my friends were still alive .They left themselves enough to sustain the simple life they enjoyed and had always lived , medical insurance and so on. Their view was that life was most difficult when families were beginning with babies and mortgage, and their own money was not really helping anyone but the bank . They thought they’d give them money before time devalued it , and when it was most needed . I’m not advocating that necessarily for everyone , many of us can’t , but it seemed a good idea for them to be able to really be of help to the family .

@Brooke Spencer They were talking about projective presidential candidates being between Hilary & Trump, so maybe around 2015-ish?? Kind of a while ago now. It's probably risen A LOT in price, I'd be frightened to know!!!! One month in there would bankrupt many elderly, that's the sad truth. For the kind of luxury food they can order and what's offered, beautiful scenery, safe atmosphere (although I don't agree with serving alcohol or /open bar in a facility that has many on medications!!), I suppose it was somewhat justified if everything was included but beyond the $5300 a month, it's becoming unrealistic as there won't be as many wealthy elderly to sustain that nor families that can pull that off. This country is a horrific shame the way it treats our elderly seniors, whatever happened to taking care of those who took care of us!?! It's an older documentary. Maybe I'll look up their website which I'm sure they have, and see what it says. I'm sure COVID ran rampant down there. Health didn't seem emphasized to me. I'm studying to be a nurse in geriatrics and I was concerned they're encouraging so much alcohol. I understand people need to have fun and have the right to drink & let loose, but it sends a poor message & seems a bit reckless even. If people are already imbalanced their walkers aren't going to help them mobilize. Alcohol has medical consequences, it shouldn't be used to mask your assisted living as the Taj Mahal frat party for your golden twilight years. I can think of so many other things they could be offering at a fraction of the cost and would benefit the aging mind.

I work hard now so I can have options when I get older- too many don’t think of their golden years- I get calls everyday from people who can’t afford basic needs as I help seniors with their health insurance choices.

So when someone sits on one of the grandiose chairs and realises it’s been urinated on? What then? What happens when there is a wafting smell of ammonia from a carpet? There doesn’t have to be double incontinence in old age but there is often stress incontinence. Maybe they’re not fast enough to get to the bathroom.
Are these seniors, having made a life in the place going to admit and be able to tell the staff of their incontinence problems? What about when age related memory loss turns to dementia?
What about those that do deteriorate? There must be a huge underlying fear and sense of terror as to what will happen when their health fails. We do know they cannot stay there so where are they dumped?
This place is like many assisted living set ups. They are not interested in the future of these seniors. Its all fake. It’s simply exploitative. God help you if you need any nursing care!
The opening lines said it all. It’s a business, that’s all. Lip service is paid to caring.
This is the antithesis of what I want.

Very elegant and glamorous retirement home but I am not sure how healthy it is to have a daily happy hour 365 days a year with so much variety of free booze available to these elderly residents. Many must be on numerous medications that counteract with alcohol. I can see a daily coffee / tea / juice station set up with some healthy light refreshments but certainly not a daily happy hour where only booze 🍻 🍺 🍾 🍷 🍸 🥃 is served.

I do agree there seems to be A LOT of drinking going on LoL. However, Old People should still be allowed the choice (and Evidently these folks are) to Drink or NOT to drink. That’s what Pisses me the most about growing older, that folks begin to feel like the Aged shouldn’t have the SAME rights and privileges everyone else enjoys.
