In The Beginning
Rearview Mirror Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and nothing is real subtle
when you speak.
You let them in quick
with so much to offer,
but wasn't for them to have.
What you fought so hard for
wasn't so unique,
won't go silently?
It's back.
The fight.
So is anyone giving way?
It's just like in the beginning.
The tears.
Their eyes.
Why isn't anyone giving way?
It's just like in the beginning.
Yes you led them nowhere,
plus you forgot where you should be.
Can't assume that you're safe with
the same falsified reasons.
Yes you led them nowhere
plus you forgot where you should be.
Next time you try
to relate to others,
I hope you're more successful than this?
It's back.
The fight.
So is anyone giving way?
It's just like in the beginning.
The tears.
Their eyes.
Why isn't anyone giving way?
It's just like in the beginning.
Yes you led them nowhere,
plus you forgot where you should be.
Can't assume that you're safe with
the same falsified reasons.
All your faults don't prove that
once you were real and now you're less,
and we all hope it's soon over.
This should have never began.
It's back.
The fight.
So is anyone giving way?
It's just like in the beginning.
The tears.
Their eyes.
Why isn't anyone giving way?
The path taken there's so much lost here.
The opening lines in the song "In the Beginning" by Rearview Mirror present an introspective tone with a message about humility. The lyrics "You're not above and nothing is real subtle when you speak" allude to the arrogance of the singer who appears to believe they hold a position of authority or superiority over others. However, despite this, the singer's words and actions are not discreet or subtle, causing the listener to question their motives and sincerity.
The following lines show the singer's attempt to connect with others but with little success as they seem to offer much more than they can deliver. The lyrics "You let them in quick with so much to offer, but wasn't for them to have" suggest that the singer may overpromise and underdeliver their expectations, ultimately leading to disappointment. The next set of lines touch upon the singer's past mistakes that follow them, creating tensions and conflicts ("The fight/So is anyone giving way?/It's just like in the beginning").
The theme of the song is one of reconciliation and self-awareness. The singer admits their faults and realizes they have led others astray. However, there is a sense of hopefulness in the lyrics, as the song ends with "The path taken there's so much lost here," possibly implying that there is an opportunity for the singer to make amends and grow from their past mistakes.

These guys should have went big, everything was there. I was going to Western IL Univ. when they were getting pretty popular around the Iowa/IL area. Such a great album and I'll be damned if I can't find it anywhere.
