She came to prominence in 2010 when she became the runner-up of the seventh series of British show "The X Factor" and was mentored by Cheryl Cole. Ferguson made it all the way to the finals where she dueted with her idol Christina Aguilera performing 'Beautiful'. Ferguson placed second behind winner Matt Cardle, and the same week was signed to Syco Music owned by Sony Music Entertainment. As Songfacts reports, her debut single, Nothing's Real But Love, was released in November 2011, a week before Ferguson's debut album, Heaven, was made available.

In the following episode, Ferguson received another standing ovation from Dannii and Cheryl after singing "Candle in the Wind".
Ferguson's second studio album, Freedom, was released in December 2013.
In 2015 Ferguson released her third studio album Lady Sings the Blues covering a number of jazz classics made famous by Billie Holiday.
She released the single "Uncrazy" on 1 December 2017, a dance song, which moves away from Ferguson's usual style of music.
