Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

Aifur
Rebellion Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Down the Dnepr did we glide
To cross Esuppi was a wild water ride
And past Holmfors and Geladri did we steer
Her voice like thousand demons
Ringing in our ear
Aifur now before us lies
Upon the rapid waters racing down
She is dangerous and strong
Slow the ship as we go on
And the currents pull
The dragon down oh down
Aifur the wild
Raging waters over rocks
Sharp as a sword for attack
Aifur the wild
May Thor guide the ship
Past your demons so black
Violent forever more
I stand amidst the boiling waters
Towering high
The rocks are sharp
And slippery watch out or die
Against the currents
40 Viking warriors fight
For many hours now
Until the break of night
Watch your feet never slip
Hold the boat don't lose the grip
All the power worn the strength is gone
Just one more hour and we're through
Aifur now we've challenged you
Come on brothers tug the dragon on
The lyrics to "Aifur" by Rebellion are about a group of Viking warriors who are navigating down the Dnepr river. As they approach the rapids, they encounter a dangerous section of the river called Aifur. The crew slows down their ship to navigate through the dangerous waters, but the currents are strong and they are pulled down. The lead singer describes the sharp rocks of Aifur as being as sharp as a sword and very dangerous for the crew. The crew fights the currents and the rocks for many hours before finally reaching the other side.
The song is a vivid portrayal of the strength and determination of the Viking warriors while they were traveling through hostile territory. The lead singer's voice is full of emotion and intensity, depicting the fear and danger facing the crew. The lyrics also allude to the Viking warriors' belief in the power of the gods, specifically Thor, to guide and protect them on their journey.
