Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

Einherjar
Rebellion Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
On the fields of blood
Eyes staring empty
Life runs in the mud
Skogul clad in mist
To choose amidst the gore
Those fallen heroes
Whom Hel shall have nevermore
To drink forever
Valkyries serving Heidrun's mead
To feast on Saehmnir's meat
Daily risen from the dead
To live a warrior's life
Reckless and hard
To walk, to live, to breathe, to die
The honour of Asgard
Come all you heroes
The slain of battlefields
Einherjars warriors
Your fate long revealed
Come sons of Odin
Welcome in Valhall
Einherjars heroes
On Wigrid thou shalt fall
To sit with Odin
His guest and adopted son
To live in Valhall
Until Ragnarök may come
To fight aside the Gods
On Wigrid's fields of blood
To die a second time
Within the final blood
On Wigrid thou shalt fall
The lyrics to "Einherjar" by Rebellion speak about the aftermath of war and the fate of those who have fallen in battle. The song depicts a scene of peace slowly descending on a blood-soaked battlefield where the fallen soldiers lie lifeless with empty stares. The Valkyrie Skogul appears, clad in mist, to choose among the lost heroes and bring them to Valhalla, the hall of the slain in Norse mythology. Those who are chosen will drink Heidrun's mead, eat Saehmnir's meat, and live the life of a warrior in Asgard forever. They will fight alongside the gods on the fields of Wigrid until the final battle at Ragnarök.
The lyrics of "Einherjar" are an ode to the warriors who have sacrificed their lives in battle and glorify their heroism. The song speaks to the honor associated with living a warrior's life and dying for a cause. It also touches upon the theme of death and the afterlife in Norse mythology, where only the chosen warriors can enter Valhalla and fight alongside the gods. The song portrays a sense of longing for this kind of glory, where warriors can be remembered for all eternity in the halls of Asgard.
