Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

On The Edge Of Life
Rebellion Lyrics

Along the icy Neva's shores
Sailing ever north
A strange white light floats on the clouds
The silence screams at us so loud
Faces in the clouds
Through this world of ice and snow
In the dawn strange creatures glow
Frozen giants passing by
Standing on the edge of the life
Sailing on and never stop
Hold the sails don't let them drop
Here the stranded have to die
Sailing on the edge of life
An icy lake before us lies
Frozen smiles in weary eyes
Cold and empty eyes
Following the northern star
As we head for Ladoga
The northern star
[Chorus]
The land where ancient giants dwell
What is real who can tell
Eager eyes they seem to stare
Ghastly sigths in the air
Who claims my soul who knows the deal
Claws of ice I can feel
Stone cold fingers touch my heart
Hold it tight tear it apart
[Chorus]
The lyrics of "On The Edge Of Life" by Rebellion, take the listener on a journey through icy and desolate landscapes in the northern hemisphere. The first stanza talks about traveling along the icy shores of the Neva River, which flows through Russia and Finland. The reference to the "strange white light" floating on the clouds and the "faces in the clouds" creates a sense of foreboding and mystery. The chorus speaks about the strange creatures that glow in the dawn, the frozen giants, and the feeling of being on the edge of life. The harsh conditions of the environment make survival difficult, and the line "here the stranded have to die" adds to the sense of danger and isolation.
The second stanza continues the journey with a frozen lake in front of the travelers, and the description of frozen smiles in weary eyes creates a sense of despair and hopelessness. The northern star guides them towards Ladoga, an area known for its ancient giants. The reference to "ghastly sights in the air" adds to the sense of the unknown and the supernatural. The final stanza deals with the prospect of losing one's soul to the cold and desolate environment. The lyrics talk about the "claws of ice" and "stone cold fingers" tearing the heart apart, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for the harsh and unforgiving nature of the landscape.
Overall, "On The Edge Of Life" is a song that captures the feeling of isolation, danger, and mystery that is associated with the icy landscapes of the northern hemisphere. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the environment and the potential dangers that come with traveling through it.
