Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

The Clans are Marching
Rebellion Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bonnie Prince Charles is in the highlands to claim his crown no doubt
He raised his Standart at Glenfinnen calling to our pride
The Jacobites are gathering I'll be at their side
Armed and ready stand
My rights I must defend
Steel is in my hand
The clan's are marching 'gainst the law
Bagpipers play the tunes of war
Death or glory I will find
Rebellion on my mind
The town of Edinburgh fell soon in our hands
Defeated the English at the Battle of Prestopans
The lyrics of Rebellion's song The Clans Are Marching describe the historical event of the Jacobite Rising which took place in Scotland in 1745. Bonnie Prince Charles, also known as Charles Edward Stuart or The Young Pretender, had come to Scotland from France with the hope of reclaiming the throne for the House of Stuart. The song portrays the excitement and anticipation of the rebellion, with rumors spreading that it is about to break out and the prince being in the highlands to claim his crown.
The reference to Glenfinnen relates to the raising of the Royal Standard of Scotland by Bonnie Prince Charles on August 19, 1745, which marked the beginning of the uprising. The song mentions the Jacobites gathering, indicating their support for the prince's cause, and the singer's determination to take up arms and fight alongside them.
The song speaks of arming oneself and standing ready to defend one's rights, with steel in hand. The lyrics paint a picture of the clans marching in defiance of the law, with bagpipers playing tunes of war. The singer is willing to risk death or glory, emboldened by rebellion on his mind.
The historical context of the song's lyrics is vividly portrayed, with references to the town of Edinburgh falling to the Jacobites and their victory over the English at the Battle of Prestonpans. The song captures the sense of pride and bravery that characterized the Scottish clans during this tumultuous time in their history.

Better than the original. Much more pressure. Tomi Göttlich exceptional bassist. Also a very humble and friiendly band, they signed every CD i ordered from them. And if you read the booklet, you can see that Tomi is indeed a history teacher.

The best time to plant a tree was 100 years ago the second best time to do so now, give clan Campbell a black eye for what they did to those women and children that housed and fed them while the men were away while you’re at it. The book of grudges must be made balanced on all accounts.
