Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

War
Rebellion Lyrics

The Norns sung my fare
Ravens beside me evermore
In a world to be made
But you who are you
The Giants of Ice
Ymir you think you rule
It's a war of thousand years
Between courage and your fears
It's a war an endless fight
Between darkness and light
It's a war of thousand years
There is life and endless tears
It's war where giants fall
Gods shall stand tall
Odin I am standing strong
Amidst bloodshed's agony
Vili and Ve hold our long
Oh my brothers next to me
Where is Ymir he must die
Then his breed will be gone
Fall upon him hear his cry
This battle is won
The lyrics of Rebellion's song War are inspired by Norse mythology and the war between the gods and the giants, specifically the figure of Odin, the god of war, wisdom, and poetry. The singer of the song declares himself as the son of Bor and receives the support of the Norns, the goddesses of fate and destiny, as well as the ravens, which are Odin's companions. In contrast, the singer questions the identity and authority of the Giants of Ice, particularly Ymir, who is perceived as arrogant and incapable of ruling. The lyrics convey a sense of conflict and opposition between two opposing forces that have been in battle for thousands of years, and which consists of courage and fear, darkness and light, and life and endless tears. The song culminates with the victory of the gods over the giants, with Ymir's defeat being the final outcome of the war.
