Lay My Claim
Rebelution Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning
Nah, never made sense to me why come crave the limelight
It makes me wonder how I'm supposed to be
Could it be wrong to kick back and just write?
Now let the truth be told, went in my zone
Learned from the finest techniques
Now let the truth be sold to you, eyes on the goal
But you're moving too quick, don't speak, don't speak, just listen
No doubt gonna lay my claim
You put in work and just wait
And let it all unfold, straight from the soul
Now I stick to my goal always
Damn right, gotta lay my claim
Watch the whole world change
And let it all unfold, straight from the soul
Gotta stick to my goal always
It's the truth, I step into the night
Nah, never made sense to me why some choose the limelight
Imagine if they put in the time to seek
To find a talent and then watch it take flight
Well let the truth be told, go to your zone
Learn from the finest techniques
Now let the truth be sold to you, come to your own
But you're moving too quick, don't speak, don't speak, just listen
No doubt gonna lay my claim
You put in work and just wait
And let it all unfold, straight from the soul
Now I stick to my goal always
Damn right, gotta lay my claim
Watch the whole world change
And let it all unfold, straight from the soul
Gotta stick to my goal always
Feels right, then it can't be wrong
Don't speak, just listen
Feels right, then it can't be wrong
Don't speak, just listen
All in, gotta keep my feel yeah
Don't speak, just listen
All in, gotta keep things real
Don't speak, just listen
No doubt gonna lay my claim
You put in work and just wait
And let it all unfold, straight from the soul
Now I stick to my goal always
Damn right, gotta lay my claim
Watch the whole world change
And let it all unfold, straight from the soul
Gotta stick to my goal always
The lyrics in Rebelution's song Lay My Claim center around the idea of staying true to oneself, pursuing one's passions, and achieving one's goals. The artist reflects on the choices people make to either seek the limelight or take a more laid-back approach to their craft, ultimately encouraging listeners to stick to their goals and allow their talents to take flight.
The first stanza speaks to how the artist himself questions the common desire for attention and fame, opting instead to focus on his own creative process. He acknowledges the importance of honing one's craft, learning from others and staying true to one's vision. The second stanza encourages listeners to do the same, to find their own zone and learn from those who have come before them. The chorus repeats the phrase "lay my claim," a call to action to put in the work and wait for success to come.
The bridge further emphasizes the importance of trusting one's intuition and following what feels right. The final chorus echoes the earlier sentiments, ending on the note of staying committed to one's goals.
Overall, the lyrics convey a message of perseverance and authenticity, with an emphasis on the rewards that can come from staying true to oneself and putting in the effort to achieve one's aspirations.

Rebelution kicked off their “Peace of Mind Tour” the day after the release, selling out shows at Philly’s The Electric Factory, The Hollywood Palladium, Denver’s The Fillmore, The Fox Theater in Oakland and Hard Rock in Orlando, FL. The tour made stops in a total of 42 cities across the country.
Summer 2012 was spent supporting O.A.R on their Amphitheatre tour, headlining four amphitheaters in Florida as well as festival performances at Outside Lands, Hangout, Forecastle, Summer Camp, Summer Set, The Allman Bro’s Peach Festival and two performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. After completing a Fall tour of the East and South East, Rebelution will be headlining The Hollywood Palladium on New Years Eve, heading to New Zealand for the Raggamuffins Festival in February and headlining their annual Winter Greens Tour around the USA in Feb - May 2013.
Peace of Mind marks the first time Rebelution has expanded beyond their usual self-production enlisting producers Michael Goldwasser (Easy Star All-Stars), Amp Live (Zion-I), Yeti Beats (Kool Keith, George Clinton), Keith Armstrong and Errol Brown (Stephen, Ziggy, Damian, and Bob Marley). The album builds upon the band’s signature style while venturing into new musical genres from the lush strings incorporated into the gentle “Route Around” to the driving guitar and synths throughout “Lady In White”.
Rebelution has developed into a front-runner for grassroots, independent and tour driven music groups. Originally formed in 2004, members Eric Rachmany (vocals / guitar), Rory Carey (keyboards), Wesley Finley (drums), and Marley D. Williams (bass) met in college, while residing in Isla Vista, a popular beachside community in Santa Barbara. It was there that the seeds to Rebelution’s future were planted creating inspiring and engaging music that would leave their listeners with the sense that they have the power to make this world a better place. The band continuously tours across the country, ventured to South America and Europe, and has previously performed at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits among others.

Thank you Rebelution. This is arguably the most meaningful song to me personally, ever. The message is relatively simple, but I am in the process of truly finding myself for the first time and feeling like all these years of therapy are finally paying off, so it is quite profound for me. This is my self-love/self-improvement anthem <3
