More Love
Rebelution Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Because you're living an illusion
I can't wait till it hits you
Recollection, your misconception
Obsessed, you say the green is success
Well, material gain causes serious stress
More love
Because you're living an illusion
Wake up now yes you're living in confusion
You're not a scholar
You're a waste of a teacher
Preach the dollars
You're a waste of a preacher

Love, come on, that's what we need
More love, that's what we need to succeed
Not dollars, nah, not what we need
Let's give them love so the youth can achieve

More love, come on, that's what we need
More love, that's what we need to succeed
Not dollars, nah, not what we need
Let's give them love so the youth can achieve now

Yep, you gotta see clearer
Clear on up, stay up, and stay clear of
Go back to basics, look in the mirror
You're in a dream wake up and now gear up
Come on, love, continually loving that's realer
Make up your mind and emerge as a leader
Now it connects, many many all feed off
Rise up above, 'cause the youths they feed off love

Love, come on, that's what we need
More love, that's what we need to succeed
Not dollars, nah, not what we need
Let's give them love so the youth can achieve

More love, come on, that's what we need
More love, that's what we need to succeed
Not dollars, nah, not what we need
Let's give them love so the youth can achieve now

Yep, you gotta see clearer
More love, come on, that's what we need
More love, that's what we need to succeed
Not dollars, nah, not what we need
Let's give them love so the youth can achieve now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Rebelution's song More Love speak to the importance of love and unity over material gain and individual success. The first verse calls out those who are consumed by the illusion of material success and warns that it will ultimately lead to stress and disillusionment. The second verse is directed at those who prioritize money and status over compassion and education, labeling them as "waste[s]". The chorus emphasizes that love is the key to success, especially when it comes to empowering and uplifting the youth. The bridge encourages listeners to reflect on their priorities and choose love and leadership over greed and self-promotion.

Whats amazing about the intro is the fact that its hard for the brain to know where beat 1 is without a metronome or drums. The intro riff starts on the "and" of 1 but if you havent heard the live version or if you lose focus, the riff tricks you into thinking its on beat 1. This effect makes the vocals "because youre living an illusion" (pun intended or not??? Lol) seem like they are coming from nowhere. Then the band comes in and its bliss. Curious to whether they intended this or not but the intro is literally a musical illusion hahahaha.
