Trap Door
Rebelution Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning
That never occurred to me
You're looking for that shortcut
I don't wanna cause a scene
You wanna keep from closing
That would be okay with me
You should be more outspoken
Nah, I see an out for me
You're looking for a trap door
So you can make a run for it
Sneak through the ground floor
Be careful what you wish for
You need to find some answers
Nah, I'm headed out to sea
It's time you solve your problems
But they only make me scream
Hey man, I'm far from perfect
What do you expect of me?
Hey man, I'm only human
Why can't you just let me be?
You're looking for a trap door
So you can make a run for it
Sneak through the ground floor
Be careful what you wish for
The lyrics in Rebelution's "Trap Door" are focused on the idea of running away from problems and avoiding issues rather than facing them head-on. The narrator seems to have a more accepting and calm approach to life, while the person they address in the song is looking for a shortcut through life - a trap door. The narrator sees this way of living as problematic and even dangerous because it allows the person to not deal with their problems, which only makes things worse in the long run.
The narrator suggests that their companion should speak their mind more and be more proactive in solving their issues, but they choose to take the easy way out by searching for a trap door. The chorus repeats the line "Be careful what you wish for" as a warning that running away may not be the solution to their problems and could create more chaos.
Overall, the song is a commentary on the idea of escapism and the dangers of running away rather than facing our problems head-on. It encourages listeners to take control of their lives and confront their issues, rather than trying to find an easy way out.

I don't mind either way
You should be more outspoken
You should speak up and be more assertive
Nah, I see an out for me

You're looking for a trap door

Hey man, I'm far from perfect
I'm not flawless and have my own shortcomings
What do you expect of me?
What can you realistically expect from me?
Hey man, I'm only human
I make mistakes and have weaknesses like everyone else
Why can't you just let me be?
Why can't you give me space and not judge me?

Rebelution kicked off their “Peace of Mind Tour” the day after the release, selling out shows at Philly’s The Electric Factory, The Hollywood Palladium, Denver’s The Fillmore, The Fox Theater in Oakland and Hard Rock in Orlando, FL. The tour made stops in a total of 42 cities across the country.
Summer 2012 was spent supporting O.A.R on their Amphitheatre tour, headlining four amphitheaters in Florida as well as festival performances at Outside Lands, Hangout, Forecastle, Summer Camp, Summer Set, The Allman Bro’s Peach Festival and two performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. After completing a Fall tour of the East and South East, Rebelution will be headlining The Hollywood Palladium on New Years Eve, heading to New Zealand for the Raggamuffins Festival in February and headlining their annual Winter Greens Tour around the USA in Feb - May 2013.
Peace of Mind marks the first time Rebelution has expanded beyond their usual self-production enlisting producers Michael Goldwasser (Easy Star All-Stars), Amp Live (Zion-I), Yeti Beats (Kool Keith, George Clinton), Keith Armstrong and Errol Brown (Stephen, Ziggy, Damian, and Bob Marley). The album builds upon the band’s signature style while venturing into new musical genres from the lush strings incorporated into the gentle “Route Around” to the driving guitar and synths throughout “Lady In White”.
Rebelution has developed into a front-runner for grassroots, independent and tour driven music groups. Originally formed in 2004, members Eric Rachmany (vocals / guitar), Rory Carey (keyboards), Wesley Finley (drums), and Marley D. Williams (bass) met in college, while residing in Isla Vista, a popular beachside community in Santa Barbara. It was there that the seeds to Rebelution’s future were planted creating inspiring and engaging music that would leave their listeners with the sense that they have the power to make this world a better place. The band continuously tours across the country, ventured to South America and Europe, and has previously performed at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits among others.

I can already see the music video being:
The scene opens is a mid-evil fantasy world (D&D) to a large town outside a large keep. We pan through the city streets, people all walking in one direction arriving at a a tavern with a raggedy makeshift banner that says “Rebelution Tonight Only”. The tavern jam packed with people as the camera pans past all different varieties of adventurers, travelers and townsfolk. Leading to a midsized stage made just big enough for the band to fit comfortably, a banner overhead the stage saying “Rebelution”. The band of Bards enters the stage from the right and takes their place on the stage, the crowd cheering in delight!
The lead singer (Eric) a Half-Elf pulls a beautiful life made of wood from a Eldrich Tree. He cast a Thaumaturgy spell on himself and starts to strum, as the crowd goes wild.
The Bassist (Marley) a Half-Orc has a Unbelievable instrument the likes which most folk have never seen! A large lute by all means, but incredibly deeper than all others(Bass). He plucks the strings with his finger as magical deep sounds bellow from his playing.
The Drummer (Wes) a Teifling sits at a very makeshift set of drums, tambourines and symbols. He pulls to black magic sticks from his pouch and starts to rhythmically beat the drums.
The Keyboards (Rory) a Full Elf plays an instrument that people have never seen before, an instrument passed down his elvish family as a heirloom...The 🎹. He starts to melodically touch the keys as they fill the air with magic!
TRAP DOOR STARTS PLAYING
The crowd lights up with cheer! A young half elf girl (Rouge) tries to enter the tavern to avoid the town guard chasing her. She slips past the front door just as the guard are rounding the corner. She has no idea why there are so many people in the tavern, but they make good cover for her escape. She makes her why yo the bar where not even the bartender is willing to engage her for he is to enchanted by what is happening in the stage. She turns and sees the Band of Bards(Rebelution), and their magic hits her ears. She immediately stops her escape, and starts slowly walking towards the stage. She’s seems enchanted by the music as well if not charmed even. She makes her way to the front of the crowd, and watches as the musicians dazzle her. The lead singer enters his solo, and all eyes are on his as his shreds his loot (Critical!!!). He ends the song as the guards start to slowly make their way through the crowd. They seem slight dazzled as well. But the lead singer singing the final chorus looks directly at the Rouge girl, then looks below her at the floor revealing a trap door she is stranding on. She looks up at him and he winks at her finishing his song, as the spell ends. The rouge no longer in the room has taken the trap door, and the guards have lost her.
Later reveal she was the Singer girlfriend the whole time, the bands caravan rides off into the sunset to their next gig!!! Credits.

Isso sim é som de qualidade! A voz desse mano é harmônica e traz uma paz imensa e o instrumental é belo em demasia. Salve, salve os verdadeiros arquitetos da música universal!

I feel called out by this song.
And Eric's voice makes it even more meaningful. There's just something ...special in his style. I've had a massive voice crush for like the past 3 years :)
Although he could sing even the chemical ingredients from a bottle of deodorant to me and I would be like 😍
