Chasing Your Echo
Red Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm captured again
Nothing now
Obeying, this life escaping
Tasting yesterday's obsession underneath
Guilty of misery, your love of violent end

It's over now
I don't know how
To keep you here
But I can't let go
Don't run away
Just stay with me
Don't leave me chasing your echo

Desire breaks
My shadow wakes
It follows ever after

It's over now
I don't know how
To keep you here
But I can't let go
Don't run away
Just stay with me
Don't leave me chasing your echo

Obsession
Obsession

It's over now
I don't know how to keep you here
But I can't let go

It's over now
I don't know how
To keep you here
But I can't let go
Don't run away

Just stay with me
Don't leave me chasing your echo

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Red's song "Chasing Your Echo" describe the singer's struggle with a destructive obsession for someone who has left them. The opening lines suggest that the person has been captured by this obsession once again, feeling trapped and aimless. They are desperate to escape this life that revolves around chasing after the echoes of their past, specifically the memories and emotions associated with their intense love for this person. The line "Guilty of misery, your love of violent end" suggests that the singer blames themselves for the misery they are experiencing, believing that their intense love ultimately led to a violent and destructive conclusion.

The chorus expresses the singer's conflicting emotions. They acknowledge that it's over and they don't know how to make the person stay, but they also cannot let go. They plead for them to stay and not run away, desperately longing for their presence. The line "Don't leave me chasing your echo" emphasizes the singer's desire to break free from this cycle of longing and finally have a real connection with the person they are obsessed with.

The song continues to explore the theme of obsession and desire, with the singer's shadow representing their longing and need for the other person. They feel that this desire follows them constantly, even after the relationship has ended.

Overall, "Chasing Your Echo" delves into the inner turmoil of someone consumed by an unhealthy obsession. It reflects their internal struggle to let go of the past and find a way to move on, despite the overwhelming desire to hold on to the person who has left them.

Yeah tbh. Hymn for the Missing shouldn’t been a remix.

That song is supposed to be an emotional song not like a dubstep club song.

Same Disease need more improvement.

Unstoppable is decent not my favorite from this album. I rather listen to Fracture or Coming Apart

I've seen a lot of people compare this album to Vessels, and although they are quite similar, Gone still feels like Red.

In comparison to Vessels which was very much a space themed album, Gone still holds a specific `Red-ness` if you will.

The brass and strings still hold a more classical orchestral sound then Starset's more movie soundtrack use.

Not to mention Michael Barnes' vocal style and Anthony's AreYouSureYoureTheOnlyGuitaristInTheBand?-Style of playing
keeps them still individualized from other bands in this new Cinematic Rock era.

In all, Red has found a place in this new modern style of rock, and i really hope to see some new bands that can really make this a genre all it's own.

I really feel like they need to make a video for this song! Wayyy too cinematic and epic to not have a video made for it! Who's with me?!

JC Zapata

I got an idea for that. When your crazy girlfriend is holding you prisoner for herself

This is still Red. Amazing songs with a different twist. I love this album. One of their best and quickly one of my favorites. This is unique in its own right. It is still Red. Thanks for taking the risk and revealing new layers, depth and texture to your music. I can only imagine this style and strings on future album's. Wow.
