Shadows
Red Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sunset, I close my eyes
I pretend everything's alright
Drowning in anger from all these lies
I can't pretend everything's alright
Please don't let me fall forever
Can you tell me it's over?

There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master
I tried to save you, but I can't find the answer
I'm holding onto you, I'll never let go
I need you with me as I enter the shadows

Caught in the darkness, I go blind
But can you help me find my way out?
Nobody hears me, I suffer the silence
Can you tell me it's over now?

There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master
I tried to save you, but I can't find the answer
I'm holding onto you, I'll never let go
I need you with me as I enter the shadows

I'm holding onto you [Repeat x2]
There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master
I tried to save you, but I can't find the answer

I'm holding onto you, I'll never let go
I need you with me as I enter the shadows

Overall Meaning

In Red's song "Shadows," the lyrics tell a story of someone struggling with their inner demons. The opening lines—"Sunset, I close my eyes / I pretend everything's alright / Drowning in anger from all these lies / I can't pretend everything's alright"—suggest someone trying to escape the harsh reality they are facing. They are pretending everything is okay, but underneath, they are overwhelmed with anger due to the lies they have heard.

The chorus "Please don't let me fall forever / Can you tell me it's over?" highlights the person's desperation for someone to save them from their own darkness. They are begging for reassurance that the pain will end. The following verse reveals that the person has been trying to save someone else despite their own struggles, but they haven't been able to find the answer. "There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master / I tried to save you, but I can't find the answer / I'm holding onto you, I'll never let go / I need you with me as I enter the shadows."

The bridge highlights the person's suffering and isolation, but ends with a plea for someone to help them find their way out of the darkness, "Caught in the darkness, I go blind / But can you help me find my way out? / Nobody hears me, I suffer the silence / Can you tell me it's over now?"

Overall, the lyrics to "Shadows" are a reflection of the struggles that people face in dealing with their inner demons. It is a reminder that sometimes it takes the help of others to find one's way back into the light.

I love this band, mostly because it is a Christian band and their songs are so powerful.

Toxicspasm

@Hangesecretlover no that's there opinion and it's people like you who don't realize it won't change ridicule hatred and destruction are human nature you got some who will bash religions/beliefs then you got others who will bash race sexuality etc but there's those people who like to speak up playing a hero when they don't realize you could scream it from mountain tops you could spend trillions spreading the words or even try to force people to believe differently or see differently but you won't succeed. a wise man once told me "the human mind is like stone once you carve something into it your not getting it out without breaking its very being"

@Beth Gimenez "all that crap" who r u to define what's crap and what's not? You're making a point about how people shouldn't ridicule people talking openly about Christianity (which I completely agree on) BUT HERE U ARE RIDICULING PEOPLE ABOUT OPENING UP ABOUT THEIR SEXUALITY AND ALL THAT OTHER SO CALLED "CRAP" . People like you and like them r the reason there's no peace between different communities .
