Fire
Red Hot Chili Peppers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well alright, now dig this

You don't care for me I don't care about that
You got a new fool hah I like it like that
I have only one burning desire
Oh, can I make love with your fire?

Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire oh yeah

Now listen to this baby
And stop acting so crazy

You say your mom ain't home ain't my concern
Just don't play with me and you won't get burned
I have only one burning desire
Oh, I'm gonna, me, do it in your fire

Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire oh yeah

Oh move over over,
And let Mr. Huckleberry take over,
You know he's bad, you know he drowns,
You know who he gives it to, yeah

That's right, now dig this

You try to give me your money you better save it babe
Save it for your rainy day I have only one burning desire
Oh, can I make love over your fire?

Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire (funky funky fire)
Let me stand next to your fire

You better slide you ass over, girl
'Cause I'm coming through once and I'm coming the way you must be

Overall Meaning

The song "Fire" by Red Hot Chili Peppers is a classic rock song that has been covered by various artists throughout the years. The song was originally written and performed by Jimi Hendrix, but the Red Hot Chili Peppers put their own spin on it with their version. The lyrics to the song are about a man who is attracted to a woman's fiery personality and wants to be close to her. The phrase "let me stand next to your fire" is a metaphor for wanting to be close to someone who is passionate and intense.

The first verse of the song talks about how the woman does not care for the man, but he does not care about that. She has moved on to a new "fool," but he likes it that way. He then states that he has only one burning desire, which is to make love with her fire. The chorus repeats the phrase "let me stand next to your fire" and includes a funky beat that is typical of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' style.

The second verse continues with the man saying he does not care if the woman's mother is not home, but she should not play with him or she will get burned. He then reiterates his desire to make love in her fire. The bridge of the song features some spoken word lyrics where the man says he is taking over and he is bad. The final verse talks about how the woman should save her money because he only has one burning desire, which again is to make love with her fire.

Overall, the lyrics of the song are full of sexual innuendos and metaphors about passion and intensity. The funky guitar riff and upbeat tempo of the song make it a classic rock hit that is still popular today.

The fact that the producers told rhcp to try & calm down the crowd & they come out and play this is fucking savage 😂

@ARO323

Absolutely the best fuck you they could have given to ‘the man’ 🤣

@user-mk6rg6ef8s

This is not true, the song was on the original setlist, and Hendrix's relatives asked to play a song in his honor.

@ClickToPreview

I was there in the crowd. Maybe it was on the setlist, but it pretty much happened on cue then (!) as morons had lit the outer barrier of the venue on fire a few minutes earlier.

@neshnevin9786

This video is just overwhelming. A massive fire in the audience and Flea playing completely in the nude while the whole band plays an impeccable cover of one of Jimmy Hendrix's best songs.

@jeremypr

100%, so epic. rock n roll

@gioravalico550
