I"m sad that John is gone, and I can't relate to his other stuff. Josh is as good a replacement as anyone so at least there's at.

A b-side is the opposiute side of a hit on a 45 record the hit is the a-side and the b-side is the unreleased music deemed unfit for the charts. It wasn't released officially but it is rare sometimes to find one actually. Having the original B-side on a single can be rare in other words. It's not just a RHCP thing but their B-sides are really good actually some like gong li, this song, million miles of water, dosed, funny face, lately. I have a link to a b-side compilation of 23 of their b-sides

It comes from the old days when an album was recorded on vinyl, and the artist would put their best work on the top or "A-side" and they would record their work that they didn't consider as good (or in some cases just an instrumental) to fill the space on the opposite, or "B-side". The term is just used as slang now for songs that aren't on the official album. Protip: google youtube converter and get your B-sides that way

"Singles" (typically the songs the band/label wanted to promote off the album) had one song on the A-side, and another on the B-side. The Chili's have a habit of including songs that didn't make the album as the B-side of their singles.

While it is a great song (one of my favorites by them actually), I can see why this didn't make the album. It just doesn't have the right feel for By the Way, it doesn't match the fast-paced funk of the title track, Can't Stop, and Throw Away Your Television, and it doesn't go with the slower style of songs like Tear or Midnight. The only thing on the album I can think of that fits with this stylistically is On Mercury (which honestly shouldn't be on the album either), and even then it's only marginally similar. Still a great song, though.

This song is great, but it lacks a good and present bass line, which is very unusual for a RHCP song. I think flea wasn't satisfied with his performance in this song, and opted to ditch it from the album.
