Far Away
Red Vox Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you're here, you're far away
When you're here, you're far away
When you're here, you're far away
When you're here
You can see it up above, down below
In the wake of the flow
You can see it in your highs, in your lows
Let it teach, let it go

When you're here, you're far away
When you're here
You can hear it in a sound, as you breathe
Ebb and flow, float upstream
You can hear it in a laugh, in a scream
When you wake from the dream

When you're here, you're far away
When you're here, you're far
When you're here, you're far away
When you're here
You can feel it in the rain, in the field
As the green is revealed
You can feel it on the grass, in the heat
To the cool of the breeze
You can feel it in the glow of the leaves
As they fall from the trees

You can feel it on a cold winter eve
As the crows fall asleep

Overall Meaning

The song "Far Away" by Red Vox invites listeners to contemplate the idea of distance and the different ways we can experience it. The repetition of the phrase "When you're here, you're far away" highlights the disconnect between our physical presence and our emotional or mental state. The song suggests that distance is not only a spatial concept but also a psychological one. We can feel distant from ourselves, others, or reality itself, even when we are physically close.

The lyrics also explore the idea of perception and how our senses can shape the way we understand and connect with the world. The verses describe how we can see, hear, and feel different aspects of nature and existence. The imagery of water, laughter, rain, and leaves evoke a sense of wonder and introspection. The chorus seems to encourage listeners to embrace this awareness and use it as a way to learn and let go of preconceptions.

Overall, "Far Away" is a thought-provoking song that uses poetry and music to express profound ideas about human experience and perception. It invites listeners to reflect on their relationship with distance, both external and internal, and find meaning in the beauty of nature and the complexity of consciousness.

This song gets me right in the heart. Its like getting a gentle hug, and being told everything will be okay.

This song is one of a small handful of things that can stop my panic attacks

Had a talk recently with a friend about what we think this song is about and I think it's really interesting. They were talking about how it sounds comforting, like meditation or a gentle drug trip to get away from things. Meanwhile I actually think this song sounds like... I don't really know how to put it. It sounds like coping with trauma. Putting a thousand-yard stare into a wall in the corner of your room, listening to bird sounds outside, trying desperately to get away from thoughts that hurt you but unable to really be 'here'. The world's turning without you, and the people who care about you can see that something is eating away at you, and you just... don't know what to do. You hear it in the silence, you hear it in the laughter you try to share with your friends, you see it in the clouds, and all you want to do is be alone, be someplace else, let yourself dissociate until it feels better, but it never does.

Maybe that says something about me. I don't know. Hug your friends. Maybe it won't solve all their problems, but it makes it easier to stay here.

This song was written when Vinny was actually high on microdosing mushrooms

Yeah this song and some other parts of this album have the same “window looking out” feel for me and it feels impossible to explain how deep the feeling goes
The instrumentally climactic part of this song (the part that happens at 1:37 and again at the end) has been stuck somewhere in the back of my mind for a while now, like a vivid sunset on a beach shared with someone you no longer know

@scoopishere7881

The last verse is like a list of reasons to stay alive for me, as well as being a love letter to Mother Nature.

@Rhymelie

Currently listening to this standing in the rain in an empty field (easy thing to do in rural Ireland). Absolutely transcendent and I can't thank Red Vox enough for creating such a masterpiece during the hardest of times we've all collectively had to face

@Katia_Managan

The drums at 2:44 never fails to give me chills. By far, my favorite song on my new favorite Red Vox album.

Fun fact, Vinny wrote this while high on a microdose of psilocybin mushrooms
