Games
Redeye Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

See how they run
Taking a ride on an everyday fight to nowhere
Run inside it's a great place to hide themselves
And you know
Yeah you know
Yeah you know
Yeah you know
You know what they're doing

Can't they see
The dreams in the mind are the only thing
That bind them together
Serving the purpose until
They turn it away for dead feeling
And you know
Yeah you know
Yeah you know
Yeah you know
You know what they're feeling

You play the game
Take it while you can
Don't you give it to the man behind you
You can put it down 'til
You pick it up again
If you want to
And you know
Yeah you know
Yeah you know
Yeah you know

You know what you're doing.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Redeye's song "Games" discuss society's tendency to engage in meaningless, competition-driven activities. The phrase "taking a ride on an everyday fight to nowhere" suggests that people are constantly striving for something, yet their efforts ultimately yield little true meaning or purpose. The repetition of the phrase "you know" throughout the song implies that this recurring pattern of behavior is widely recognized but still persists.

The second verse urges listeners to recognize the importance of their dreams and aspirations, and how they can serve as a unifying force. However, the verse also acknowledges the tendency to abandon these dreams in favor of more immediate gratification, leading to feelings of disappointment and disillusionment.

The chorus urges listeners to play the game of life to the best of their ability, yet be wary of those who may try to manipulate or take advantage of them. Overall, the song encourages self-awareness and the importance of staying true to one's own values and goals.

First heard this when I was in eighth grade. I'm now enrolled in Medicare. Still a kid at heart though...

Some interesting trivia for those interested... they used to be the smash hit band of the 60's known as "The Sunshine Company" with hits like "Happy" and "Back On The Street Again"
Then years later, put together this more locally known band in the pacific north west (Portland) known as "Redeye" 👍

@ratghost25

This is actually from late 1970. It charted low in November and made it into the top 20 by late December.

@musiccollector

A rare gem. Why doesn't radio played it today instead of the tired-out Top 500 rotation??

@zkxe

I heard this song on WRME in Chicago a few days ago and I was floored ! They don't have DJs so I had to look it up to find the name of the band and song.

@geegon50

I remember this song in 1971 when I was 17. I thought it was Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Used to love hearing this on WHB radio 71 in Kansas City.

@LPD15ponce

I remember this in '71, listening to WKBW 1520, out of Buffalo.

@davidhugaert8006

I love this 1970 Redeye hit, which peaked @ #27 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart!!!

Bravo, Redeye!!!

Only 2.5 mins, yet the local radio station cut out the middle (go fig).

Hearing this for first time after seeing it in an old catalog. My first impression is it sounds like Crosby Stills & Nash.
