Redman's solo career continued throughout the remainder of the decade, with each of his albums selling at least half a million copies. His musical style has remained very consistent, rarely deviating from a combination of Redman's unique braggadocious wit and hard, P-funk-influenced beats. In addition to releasing albums under his own name, he is part of the group Def Squad (along with Keith Murray and Erick Sermon) with whom he released the 1998 album El Nino, and also has formed a close partnership with labelmate Method Man (of the Wu-Tang Clan) with whom he released the 1999 album Blackout!. The long-awaited follow-up, Blackout! 2, apeared in 2009.
He has also collaborated extensively, both with hip-hop artists and with artists from other genres; the long list of artists and groups he has worked with includes Wyclef Jean, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, The Offspring, Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Gorillaz, D'Angelo, Me'shell Ndegeocello, 2Pac, Jodeci, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, KRS One and IAM.
In 2001 Redman co-starred with Method Man in the stoner comedy film How High, which featured the pair playing two marijuana-addled students attempting to survive at Harvard. Method Man and Redman also appear in the Def Jam Vendetta video game series, often as Tag Team partners, and briefly had their own television sitcom, Method & Red, on Fox during the 2004-2005 season.
Redman is also featured on the video game "True Crime: New York City", in which the central character interacts with an undercover street cop based upon the rap star, who also provides the voice for him.

Lord higher
Could somebody turn on da lights
Somebody turn on da lights
The darkside! Yes
Guess who's back when I bring funk like Zapp
All aboard motherfuckers! While your brains get jacked
The way I kick you swear that Jim Kelly was in this motherfucker
The darkside brings apartheid
I act wild like them niggaz from Chi-Town on the Southside
Sweeter than this, whoopin' niggaz down like Jack Nich
When I backflip my tactic graphics
Ooooooh! Redman jams it in
Due to difficulties I won't be done by ten
Friend I got bust shots out the twelve Benz
And then we get the bam-ba-zee from one-ten
Or is it further up? Plus my style murder ducks
So what the fuck, you got the mic turned up fo'?
When I Chief Rock underground MC's drop like sheet rock
Here's a ride to the underground
[Chorus: x2]
To the beat y'all
Ah to the beat y'all, I do the freak y'all
I keep the Buddha to last me through the week y'all
Come take a trip on my cosmic movie boogie flicks
Far beyond space so niggaz say your grace
It's a True Lie that I bring drama like Schwarzenegger
When a baby, I had other babies in labor catchin' vapors
With two gats I move like too fast like Paxton
Ask Toni Braxton who got seven days of action
Black stars or moons eclipse the volume
Bang zoom I'm sendin' honies on the moon with ten bags of boom
Ridiculously I will pimp an MC
To degrees I leave spots like chicken pox, check the synopsis
I grow confusing just like Rubik's cube boxes
Float like the butter, fly so what if I
Blow your lenses, tear the fuckin' hinges
Did I mention that my lyrical format gets more ahs than a dentist
When I'm in this, the knotty-headed era causes terror
Y'all gimmick motherfuckers better get y'all shit together
One for the money and two for my peeps
Nynex can't even reach my technique or rap sheets
For the Squad I lick two shots word to God
Then take y'all dreams and imaginations
To the darkside
In Redman's "Journey Throo Da Darkside," the rapper boldly proclaims his entrance into the dark side - a place where his unique style of rap can thrive. Redman opens the song with a plea to "turn on da lights," indicating that he is exploring uncharted territory. He then introduces himself with confidence, claiming that he brings the funk like Zapp and that his rhymes are so powerful that the listener will "swear that Jim Kelly was in this motherfucker." Redman's lyrical style is unapologetic and rough around the edges, reminiscent of the wild Chi-Town rappers on the Southside. He makes it clear that he is not afraid to get dirty, rapping about "whoopin' niggaz down like Jack Nich" and his "bust shots out the twelve Benz."
As the song progresses, Redman takes the listener on a journey through the dark side. He invites them to "take a trip on my cosmic movie boogie flicks, far beyond space." He compares himself to Schwarzenegger, claiming that he brings drama wherever he goes. Redman is not simply rapping for the sake of it - he is on a mission to explore the unknown. He is willing to take risks, even if it means taking his listeners to the dark side.
