Take On Me
Reel Big Fish Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're talking away
I don't know what's left to say
I'm sayin' it anyway
Today's another day to find you
Shying away
I'll be coming for your love o.k.?

Take on me, take me on
I'll be gone
In a day or two

So needless to say
I'm odds and ends again
But it's me stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is o.k.
Say it after me
It's no better to be safe than sorry

Take on me,
Take me on
I'll be gone
In a day or two

Things that you say
Yeah is it life or just to play my
Worries away
You're all the things I've got to remember
Shying away
I'll be coming for you anyway

Take on me,
Take me on
I'll be gone
in a day or two

Take on me,
Take me on

I'll be gone
in a day

Overall Meaning

or two

The song "Take On Me" by Reel Big Fish was originally released by a Norwegian new wave band called A-ha. The lyrics are about a man trying to convince a woman to take a chance on him and enter into a romantic relationship. The man is persistent despite the woman's initial hesitance, as he believes that they have a connection that is worth pursuing.

The first verse establishes the man's desire to pursue the relationship, even though he is unsure of what to say or how the woman will respond. He assures her that he will continue to pursue her, even if she is initially unwilling. The repeated refrain, "Take on me, take me on," is the man's plea for the woman to take a chance on him.

The second verse acknowledges that the man is flawed and has made mistakes in the past, but he is learning from his experiences and growing as a person. He tells the woman that it's important to take risks in life and not always play it safe.

Overall, the song is a hopeful depiction of a man who is willing to persevere in pursuit of love, and encourages the idea of taking risks in life rather than playing it safe.

Damn straight, I've seen them twice and both times it was phenomenal experience for me, also first live band I saw.

The first time I saw RBF was in Philly at the Electric Factory. They opened with this song. It was one of the greatest things I've ever seen live. They came out and went right into the song. The crowd went FUCKING. BALLISTIC.

I've been listening to them for 17 years now, and goddammit, I fucking love them as much as I did the first time I heard them.

I can't imagine how an audience at an MTV Video Awards show would react to something like this. And put them on immediately after somebody like Drake.
