Pirates
Regicide Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Since five month we've been on this journey
Every day meant a new triumph
Every night brought exciting stories
But this is not what I was dreaming of
His cruelness and crime are not enough
The curse of greed changed my target

Way too many threads I've spoken. I won't let my will be broken
I will stop this madness. I will mutiny today!

So I grab the dagger
Cut through the Captain's throat
Screaming and fighting I capture the sailer
To get back the treasure trove

I had won - I was the ruler
Just like a king without a crown
I led my men to wars and battles
With a feeling something's still undone
No one ever dies - what have we become?
The years passed by and we never had a loss

Way too many years were gone and not one of our leaguers fallen
I will stop this madness. I will break this curse today

So I grab the dagger
Cut through my own throat
Screaming and fighting I'm waiting for agony
To get rid of the awful curse

And the Captain was waiting in all of these years
All of these years for revenge
Revenge was his way to find peace
To find peace

So I grab the dagger
Cut through my own throat

Screaming and fighting I'm waiting for agony
To get rid of this awful curse

Overall Meaning

The song "Pirates" by Regicide tells the story of a pirate crew who have been on a journey for five months, experiencing triumph and excitement every day and night. But the main character, who had dreams beyond just committing crimes and being cruel, becomes disillusioned with the greed and madness of his captain. He decides to take matters into his own hands and stages a mutiny, killing the captain and taking control of the ship and crew. However, as time goes on, he realizes that something is not quite right with the crew - no one ever dies, and the feeling of unfinished business lingers. So in a final act of desperation, he kills himself with the same dagger used to kill his former captain, hoping to break the curse and find peace.

The lyrics of "Pirates" depict not only the physical violence and danger of the pirate lifestyle, but also the psychological toll it takes on those involved. The main character's inner struggle is a common theme in Regicide's music, as they explore the dark side of humanity and the consequences of our actions.
