Regina Spektor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Regina, Regina
What?
When is that song gonna start?
Which song?
The song that goes like da na na na na na na na da na na na na
Oh, it's gonna start in a minute, you just gotta wait
Ok
Regina, start it already

It's gonna start in a second, you just gotta wait
It's gonna start now

Overall Meaning

These lyrics are a brief exchange between two people, with one eagerly awaiting the start of a song and the other comforting them and assuring them that it will start soon. The repetition of the phrase "da na na na na na na na da na na na na" creates a sense of anticipation and excitement, adding to the overall impatient tone of the lyrics.

However, the lyrics are also somewhat meta, as Regina Spektor herself is referenced in the first line. It's possible that the dialogue is between two fans of hers, waiting for her to perform a specific song at a concert or show. This interpretation is supported by the fact that the lyrics are spoken rather than sung, as if they were part of a dialogue between people in a specific setting.

Overall, the lyrics capture the excitement and anticipation of waiting for a performance to begin, and the impatience that can come with that anticipation. It's a brief moment that adds texture and depth to a larger narrative, similar to a scene in a movie or play.

I cannot describe in words how much this song means to me but I’ll try.

I listened to this song every night before bed when I was small, up till I was around 10-11 years old. I would beg to watch the music video (though I didn’t know it was called fidelity until a year ago - I just referred to it as Regina)

Now, as I’m getting close to 15 years old, I still listen to this song whenever I have trouble falling asleep. I age regress as a coping mechanism, and this song makes me feel immensely safe while in little space.

The odds of this being seen are very small, and it will likely get lost within the hundreds if not thousands of other comments thanking you, but I still feel the need to express how much you’ve done for me without even knowing.

Thank you. Thank you so so much. 💝

LYRICS
I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
I hear in my mind
All these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in mind
All this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
Well, it breaks my heart

Suppose I never ever met you
Suppose we never fell in love
Suppose I never ever let you
Kiss me so sweet and so soft
Suppose I never ever saw you
Suppose you never ever called
Suppose I kept on singing love songs
Just to break my own fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Break my fall
Break my fall

All my friends say
That of course it's
Gonna get better
Gonna get better
Better
Better
Better
Better
Better
Better
Better

I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
I hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in mind
All this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
I hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
Breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart

Rebecca, darling, why don't you do a reaction video on one of Regina's many fine songs, such as those on her "Live in London" album, a superlative live performance, e.g, "On the Radio", "Hotel Song", "Us", "Fidelity", "Eet", etc. Regina is actually not that well known outside of Narnia aficionados ("The Call"), and using your large Youtube viewership to share her outstanding talents (what a voice!!) would be a welcome addition to your many great reviews. People compare her to Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and even Joni Mitchell, but she stands solidly on her own, any influences notwithstanding.

She's so great!! Reminds me of Maki Mae, have you heard her new release Down by the Water? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDvzd7xv_qw&list=PL6wvagaD_goJAo9QdbXuWZ4p7ViA3uu4S&index=1

I'm 66 years old and have only discovered Ms. Spektor's music in the past year. Her music is sensitive, poignant, intelligent, lyrical, and passionate. If only I'd known about her 19 years ago my musical life would have been much richer. Better late than never!

@meaningoflife42

Never too late. Quantum leap into the next you, friend.
