After self-releasing her first three records and gaining popularity in New York City's independent music scenes, particularly the anti-folk scene centered on New York City's East Village, Spektor signed with Sire Records in 2004 and began achieving greater mainstream recognition. After giving her third album a major label re-release, Sire released Spektor's fourth album, Begin to Hope, which achieved a Gold certification by the RIAA. Her following two albums, Far and What We Saw from the Cheap Seats, each debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200. 2016's Remember Us to Life peaked at 23 on the Billboard 200.
Mayor Bill de Blasio proclaimed June 11, 2019, Regina Spektor Day in New York City. Spektor was also inducted into the Bronx Walk of Fame on May 18, 2019, by Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr.
Back of a Truck

She was the Mother Superior with her carry-on luggage charms
She was this androgynous powder nosed girl next door
She had eaten her dog and she was back for more
Back for more, back for more
Oh she was back for more, some more, yes please, some more
Her gym teacher thought himself a sweat-socked demi-god
And her front porch gave way beneath the classified weight
And when an ambulance came they said it's much too late
Oh it's much too late, oh it's much too, much too late
Oh it's much too late, how late? Very late, too late.
Now the people of New Guinea and the people of L.A.
Have been penpals for years cause they both hate ballet
Only the pandas and bears have made a clean get away
But the news bulletin claims it is gonna be okay
Now Miss Lucy had a sweat shop where the immigrants work
Problem was they all turned to pumpkins at the 12 o'clock stroke
Promptly confiscated by police precinct number X
That was when alien geraniums entered into a fight
No violence, of course, no violence, no violence, of course
Hey no violence, of course, of course, why yes, of course
I mean, I mean, of course, why yes, of…of course
Here the story gets hazy and the hair gets too long
And the T.V. gets quiet as I hear a real bad song
The mothers get whiskey and the girlfriends get tongue
And there's a back of a truck selling smoke free lungs
And there's a back of a truck selling alien pods
And there's a back of a truck selling game show hosts
And there's a back of a truck selling the souls of the dead
And there's a back of a truck selling crumb free bread
This is New York!
Now there's a back of a truck selling the back of a car
And there's a back of a car selling road way maps
And there are road way maps selling a back of a head
Hey how much for that back of a head, man?
Hey wait a minute, hey wait a minute
Wait a minute that's…wait a minute that's my back of a head
Hey you can't sell that, man, that's my back of a head
Hey, hey sell it back to me, man, sell it back to me
Hey it's, it's my m-m-m-m-m-m-mine
She lifted the monument in her monumental arms
She was the Mother Superior with her carry-on luggage charms
She was this androgynous powder nosed girl next door
She had eaten her dog and she was back for more
She had eaten her dog, D-O-W-G
She had eaten a dog, d-d-dog, d-d-dog, dog, dog, dog
She had eaten a…eaten a…eaten…eaten her…ooooh
Mmmmmm…mmmm…mmm
Ohhhh…ohhh….ohhhh
Ooooh….ooooooh…ooooh
Some more, yes please, some more
Some more, yes please, some more
The lyrics of Regina Spektor's "Back of a Truck" are a whirlwind of surreal images and disjointed scenes. The song opens with the description of a mysterious woman who is carrying a monument in her monumental arms. The woman is the "Mother Superior" with a "carry-on luggage" charm, and an androgynous, powder-nosed girl next door. The woman has eaten her dog, and now she is back for more. The song then moves on to describe a gym teacher who thinks too highly of himself and geraniums that consider themselves alien pods. The front porch of a house gives way under classified weight, and an ambulance arrives too late to save someone. The song then jumps from New Guinea to L.A. and shifts the focus to a sweatshop run by Miss Lucy. The immigrants working in Miss Lucy's sweatshop turn into pumpkins at the stroke of 12, and alien geraniums enter into a fight, but there is no violence. In the end, the song describes a back of a truck that is selling everything from smoke-free lungs and alien pods to game show hosts and the souls of the dead.

Surprise is by its definition unexpected, otherwise I have nothing smart to say, discard this comment and enjoy the music :)

Transported back to 2005 when I looked up guitar chords for this song and clumsily played and sang in my bedroom. Thank you Regina!!

That's odd... I was just driving back home and suddenly, out of nowhere, Regina's "On the radio" came to my mind after not listening to any of her songs for a couple of years. Came home, looked for Regina Spektor on Youtube just to find her brand new song uploaded 3h ago! Now, let me soak into her songs once again...

That's caused by simulation overlap. Your sub-conscience can occasionally pick up on details from other 'realities'. This is a good time to notice if you are having any new and unusual dreams.
