After self-releasing her first three records and gaining popularity in New York City's independent music scenes, particularly the anti-folk scene centered on New York City's East Village, Spektor signed with Sire Records in 2004 and began achieving greater mainstream recognition. After giving her third album a major label re-release, Sire released Spektor's fourth album, Begin to Hope, which achieved a Gold certification by the RIAA. Her following two albums, Far and What We Saw from the Cheap Seats, each debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200. 2016's Remember Us to Life peaked at 23 on the Billboard 200.
Mayor Bill de Blasio proclaimed June 11, 2019, Regina Spektor Day in New York City. Spektor was also inducted into the Bronx Walk of Fame on May 18, 2019, by Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr.
Raindrops
Regina Spektor Lyrics

You might find me anyway
Don't you know that i
Belong arm in arm with you, baby
In a town that's cold and gray
We will have a sunny day
Don't you know that i
Belong arm in arm with you, baby…
I do not know
Where does it go
When it goes
Suddenly though
Everything's slow
And i miss you so
Round each corner there's a chance
People searching glance to glance
Moving bout real fast
Like insects and fish when they're scared
And they sing the same old song
Though it's been so very long
They sing, raindrops falling on my head
But that doesn't mean that i am dead
And i do not know
Where does it go
When it goes
Suddenly though
Everything's slow
And i miss you so
You don't know but that's okay
You might find me anyway
Don't you know that i
Belong arm in arm with you, baby
In a town that's cold and gray
We will have a sunny day
Don't you know that i
Belong arm in arm with you, baby…
In "Raindrops," Regina Spektor sings about finding comfort and belonging through a relationship with someone else. The first verse expresses a sense of confident mutual understanding between two people, even if they are unsure of where they might end up. The chorus repeats the idea of "belonging arm in arm" with the other person, even in a bleak and "cold and gray" environment.
The second verse changes tone and describes the chaotic and busy world around the two people. They stand out for connecting with each other and being able to slow down amidst the hectic pace of others. The people around them seem to be blindly following a routine, singing a "same old song" as they move about.
The song ends with another repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the importance of the connection that the singer and their partner share. "Raindrops" is a poignant reminder that, in the midst of the chaos of everyday life, the comforts of belonging and companionship can be a powerful force.

@John Lopez same here as well! I remember listening to this as a teen when I first moved to Hungary from Nigeria and I’d walk home in the rain ☔️ on my zune mp3 and then my iPod shuffle. Still on my rain playlist. Moved several places since and the song still stays with me. I’m 33 now.
