Summer in the City
Regina Spektor Lyrics

Summer in the city
Means cleavage, cleavage, cleavage

And I started miss you, baby, sometimes

I've been staying up drinking
In the late night establishments
Telling strangers personal things

Summer in the city
I'm so lonely, lonely, lonely

So I went to a protest
Just to rub up against strangers
And I did feel like coming
But I also felt like crying
And it doesn't seem so worth it right now

And the castrated ones stand in the corner smoking
They want to feel the bulges in their pants start to rise
At the sight of a beautiful woman
They feel nothing
But anger
Her skin makes them sick in the night

Nauseous, nauseous, nauseous

Summer in the city
I'm so lonely, lonely, lonely

I've been hallucinating you, babe
At the backs of other women
And I tap 'em on the shoulder
And they turn around smiling but
There's no recognition in their eyes

Oh, summer in the city!
Means cleavage, cleavage, cleavage

Don't get me wrong, dear
In general I'm doing quite fine

It's just when it's summer in the city
And you are so long gone from the city I start to miss you, baby, sometimes

When it's summer in the city
And you are so long gone from the city
I start to miss you, baby, sometimes

Oh, I start to miss you, baby, sometimes

Regina didn’t steal a song title, it just happened to be the same title. Her music really isn’t emo, more emotional and metaphorical. Don’t be so close minded people

Begin to hope in one of the best CDs ever made

I was searching for the L S original, and ran across this.. I LOVE REGINA SPEKTOR and this is another ACE song by this soulful songstress.. Not all old hippies are obtuse hateful creeps!

Still one of my favorites, so subtle....

"Summer in the city means cleavage, cleavage, cleavage."

To the guy eight comments down: don't you have anything more constructive to offer, instead of curmudgeonly, bad-faith put-downs? Look, I think your ire is misplaced. You want to talk about originality? What about folk and its history of oral tradition and homage? In the Pines, for example, and its many iterations - Lead Belly, Nirvana, Bill Callahan's "Shepherd's Welcome," which recontextualizes its lyrics and pays tribute to its enduring legacy. Also, by your metric, titles can never be granted in tribute to older pieces - which, given Regina's roots in jazz, rock, and folk, is plausibly the case here - or shared by coincidence.

One can hardly assess an artist's merit based solely on your standards. I have to wonder - how insecure do you have to be in your musical taste to be this trigger-happy?

This is come up by some emo chick who can't even come up with her own song titles? You don't want to see jazz and folk get into a fight. Jazz and folk have been at odds since the dawn of time.

Mark Douglas

So lame! Summer In The City is a song by John Sebastian, Mark Sebastian & Steve Boone. Recorded by the Lovin' Spoonful. This is some emo crap by a chick who can't come up with her own song titles.
