Barely on my mind
Regrettes Lyrics

You've been busy diggin' a graveyard
It's just like the one that you showed me in Oakland
I thought you were joking but I shoulda seen it comin' to me
High, highs
Turn around I'm hit with a snake bite
Now I see the mark on the arm of a Carrie
and it still keeps me up at night
Barely on my mind
Barely on my mind all the fuckin' time
All the fuckin' time
I can see the signs
I can see the signs, barely on my mind
Barely on my mind
Sinkin' in your teeth, actin' like you're sweet, car crash
Follow me around, hold me 'til I drown, whiplash
Suckin' on my thumb, you get what you want, bad drive
Your hands on my thigh
It's barely on my mind
No sleep
Four hundred miles away you control me
I wonder what you're doin' when I'm in the bathroom
Relivin' the past, are you dyin' in shame
or you're choking a laugh?
Barely on my mind
Barely on my mind all the fuckin' time
All the fuckin' time
I can see the signs
I can see the signs barely on my mind
Barely on my mind
Sinkin' in your teeth, actin' like you're sweet, car crash
Follow me around, hold me 'til I drown, whiplash
Suckin' on my thumb, you get what you want, bad drive
Your hands on my thigh
It's barely on my mind
I had a feeling
I had a feeling
I had a feeling and no I wasn't wrong
I had a feeling, yeah, I had a feeling
I had a feelin'
you were a devil in a fancy suit
But I'm comin' back after you
You lit a fire in your own bedroom
Yeah, I had a feelin'
Barely on my mind
Barely on my mind all the fuckin' time
All the fuckin' time
I can see the signs
I can see the signs barely on my mind
Barely on my mind
Sinkin' in your teeth, actin' like you're sweet, car crash
Follow me around, hold me 'til I drown, whiplash
Suckin' on my thumb, you get what you want, bad drive
Your hands on my thigh
It's barely on my mind
The lyrics to "Barely On My Mind" by The Regrettes depict a complicated and tumultuous relationship. The song suggests that the person the singer is addressing has caused them a great deal of pain and heartache. The line "Six feet, you've been busy diggin' a graveyard" symbolizes how this person has metaphorically buried the singer's happiness and brought negativity into their life. The reference to Oakland and the graveyard being similar could imply that this person has a pattern of destructive behavior.
The lyrics also touch on the theme of betrayal and deceit. The line "Turn around I'm hit with a snake bite, now I see the mark on the arm of a Carrie" suggests that the person the singer is involved with has lied to them or betrayed their trust. The reference to "Carrie" could allude to the classic horror film character who is known for her vengeful nature. This hints at the feeling of being hurt and manipulated by this person.
Despite the pain caused by this toxic relationship, the singer admits that this person is still constantly on their mind. The repetition of the line "Barely on my mind all the fuckin' time" emphasizes the conflicting emotions the singer experiences. They recognize the negative impact this person has had on their life but struggle to let go fully.
The lyrics also convey a sense of control and dominance. The lines "Sinkin' in your teeth, actin' like you're sweet, car crash" and "Follow me around, hold me 'til I drown, whiplash" suggest that this person exerts power over the singer, both physically and emotionally. The references to sinking, drowning, and a car crash create an image of being trapped and overwhelmed by this person's presence.
Overall, "Barely On My Mind" explores the complexities of a toxic relationship characterized by betrayal, control, and lingering emotions. Despite the pain caused, the singer acknowledges the hold this person still has on them, making it difficult to move on completely.

I don't understand how this band is not way bigger than they are. They are like an oasis in the desert of modern music.

I am a 68 year old construction worker. I know this type of music isn't typically made for someone like me but I can't stop blasting it at the construction site. It helps me through these hard long days. I hope one day I can love and have a family to provide for. <3 Keep making music superstars.
@chaelyngodfrey3262
Music is for everyone. You're badass for blasting this.

LOL.. brother, I'm 63. I just now happened to run across this and I like it. Good music is good music. Just as, when we were young, so many of the "previous" generation fell in love with the music of the 60s that was supposedly made for "us".
Rock on.
@fv6125
It's okay, I am 43, a total 90s kid but I like this.
