The only set goal - more and more
Too often felt lost - don't wanna go on
Won't close my eyes - I can't ignore
Won't shut up - I can't ignore
Won't be one of them - a holy sinner's whore
Are you out - are you out
Won't be proud
Only felt ashamed
The lyrics of Reject's song "Who You Are" convey the message of an individual who refuses to turn a blind eye to the harsh realities of the world. The opening line "Don't wanna believe the facts we have to devour" suggests that it's easier to ignore the unpleasant truths of life, but the singer is challenging themselves and the listeners to face them instead. The second line "The only set goal - more and more" criticizes the societal norm of always wanting more and never being satisfied with what one has. The third line "Too often felt lost - don't wanna go on" portrays the singer's struggle with feelings of hopelessness and lack of motivation to carry on. However, the following lines show their determination to keep their eyes open and refuse to ignore what's happening around them, even if it means standing alone. The lines "Won't be one of them - a holy sinner's whore" show that the singer is rejecting the idea of giving in to societal expectations and staying true to their own beliefs.
In essence, the song seems to be a call to action for people to be more aware of the world around them and not just blindly follow the herd. Reject is not just singing about the struggles that the singer is having with their own beliefs, they are also encouraging listeners not to give into the pressure that they might feel from others. The message of the song is meant to inspire people to reject the traditional values and step forward with their own beliefs. Anyone who has ever felt isolated or alone in their own view of the world will find solace in the lyrics' message of self-assurance and personal growth.
