Starting in 2000 with their second album, Relient K was signed to Gotee Records, a Christian record label. In 2004, their album Mmhmm shot them into mainstream popularity when it released at #15 on Billboard 200, and was released on Gotee, Mono Vs. Stereo (both Christian record labels), as well as Capitol, a secular label. They stayed with Gotee/Capitol until 2007, and their album Five Score and Seven Years Ago released at #6. Their latest album, Forget and Not Slow Down was released in 2009 with Mono Vs. Stereo. The band has done very well in both the Christian and mainstream music industries. The band has sold over 2 million records, with three albums being given gold certification by the RIAA.
The band's musical style has changed over the years, starting off as very pop-punk, and maturing into a unique sort of pop-alternative-rock, with many songs varying in style, and some including acoustic guitars, piano, banjo, synths, bells, etc. Through the years, their lyrics and songwriting have matured, but they have not lost their silly side and sense of humor. They still often reference their Christian faith throughout their songs.

BOOMERANG
Relient K Lyrics

But everywhere I turn, I turn around
And you're right back in my face
And everything you say
I can't get away from you
I just can't escape
'Cause you're at my favorite bar
The smell of your Chanel 5 won't die hard
Yeah I don't stand a chance
You're hanging with my friends
When I see you again that's when it starts
We break just like it ain't no thing
But we ridin' on a boomerang
Our love is like a rubber band
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
Hey, already on the way
End up at your place when I should be driving home
Girl what was I thinking
Girl what was I drinking
Trying to tell myself that it can't be wrong
You were at my favorite bar
Your hoodie's in my car
The smell of your Chanel 5 won't die hard
Yeah I don't stand a chance
You're hanging with my friends
When I see you again that's when it starts
We break just like it ain't no thing
But we ridin' on a boomerang
Our love is like a rubber band
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
We break just like it ain't no thing
But we ridin' on a boomerang
Our love is like a rubber band
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
We break just like it ain't no thing
But we ridin' on a boomerang
Our love is like a rubber band
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
We break just like it ain't no thing
But we ridin' on a boomerang
Our love is like a rubber band
Snap back, snap back
Here we go again
The lyrics of Relient K's Boomerang are about a person who is trying to move on from a past relationship but keeps being pulled back into it. Everywhere they go, they are reminded of their ex-partner, whether it's at a favorite bar, seeing their friends, or even having their ex's hoodie still in their car. The song talks about the struggles of trying to move on but being unable to do so because of the constant reminders and temptations. The lyrics suggest that the relationship is volatile and unpredictable, comparing it to a boomerang that keeps coming back around, and a rubber band that snaps back when stretched too far. The repeated refrain of "snap back, snap back, here we go again" highlights how the cycle of breaking up and getting back together is a never-ending cycle, much like a boomerang that always returns to its starting point.
Overall, the song is a catchy reminder of how difficult it can be to break free from a toxic relationship, even when we know it's not good for us. The lyrics are relatable for anyone who has struggled to move on from a past relationship, particularly when there are constant reminders of the other person.

When they say, "We break just like it ain't no thang," it kind of sounds like part of the chorus from "Dark Horses" by Switchfoot. I am loving this album! :D

This song reminds me of someone who I had a crush on and every time I thought they were out of my life and I was getting over it, but then they came right back turned my life upside down again.
