Girls Just Want to Have Fun

My mother says, "When you gonna live your life right?"
Oh mother dear, we're not the fortunate ones
And girls, they wanna have fun
Oh, girls just wanna have fun
The phone rings in the middle of the night
My father yells, "What you gonna do with your life"
Oh daddy dear, you know you're still number one
Oh, girls just wanna have
That's all they really want, some fun
When the working day is done
Girls, they wanna have fun
Oh, girls just wanna have fun
Some boys take a beautiful girl
And hide her away from the rest of the world
I wanna be the one to walk in the sun
Oh girls, they wanna have fun
Oh, girls just wanna have
That's all they really want, some fun
When the working day is done
Girls, they wanna have fun
Oh, girls just wanna have
They just wanna, they just wanna
They just wanna, they just wanna
They just wanna, they just wanna
Girls, they wanna have fun
Oh, girls just wanna have
That's all they really want, some fun
When the working day is done
Girls, they wanna have fun
Oh, girls just wanna have
The lyrics of Relient K's song "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" reflect the desire of young women to experience a carefree life filled with fun and excitement. The first verse begins with the singer coming home late at night, and being scolded by their mother for not living their life right. The singer responds by explaining that they are not one of the fortunate ones, but the desire for fun and excitement is universal, particularly among young women.
The second verse introduces the singer's father, who also questions what the singer plans to do with their life. The singer responds by reminding their father of his importance but once again emphasises the desire for fun and excitement. The chorus repeats the message that girls just want to have fun, and that is all they really want.
The final verse takes a different turn, with the singer expressing their desire to be the one to bring a beautiful girl out into the sun and share in the fun and excitement. It reinforces the idea that everyone, regardless of gender, wants to have fun and enjoy life.
Overall, the song portrays the universality of the desire for fun and excitement, particularly among young women. It also suggests that societal expectations and pressure from family members can sometimes hinder the pursuit of these desires, but ultimately the urge to have fun and be carefree persists.
