The most iconic song to many French people, and possibly the song that put him on the map, was the huge 70's French hit "Laisse Béton" (the story - told with a great deal of humour - of someone who enters a bar and gets mugged for everything he owns, from his leather jacket, to his jeans, his boots, and ends up in an alley without any clothes on).
Renaud 'came back' in 2002 with a huge hit 'Manhattan-Kaboul' (featuring Belgian singer Axelle Red), comparing the lives of a Puerto Rican in NYC to an Afghan girl in Kabul in 2001. This song catapulted his latest album to the top of the charts and earned him various awards in France. His latest album was published in october 2006 and was called "Rouge sang".

"On compte sur toi dimanche
Y aura peut-être la Sylvie
Qui viendra sans son mec
Elle est con comme un manche
Mais t'as la côte avec
T'as pas à te faire de bile
Pour toi c'est dans la poche
Et elle est pas trop moche"
Elle est pas venue la belle
Moi j'ai tenu les chandelle
J'irai plus dans vos boums
Elles sont tristes à pleurer
Comme un sourire de clown
Comme la pluie sur l'été
"Toute façon t'en fait pas"
M'avaient dit les copains
"Des nénettes y en aura
Beaucoup plus que des mecs
Le quart d'heure américain
Ça va tripoter sec"
Des filles y en avaient que douze
Pour quatre vingt poilus
On fait mieux comme partouze
Mais non je suis pas aigri
Y a qu'avec les petits LU
Que ça a été l'orgie
J'irai plus dans vos boums
Elles sont tristes à pleurer
Comme un sourire de clown
Comme la pluie sur l'été
Lorsque je suis arrivé
Sur ma vieille mobylette
Y en avaient qu'écoutaient
L'dernier David Bowie
Trois cent milles histoires belges
J'en connaîs des immondes
Mais je les garde pour les Suisses
J'irai plus dans vos boums
Elles sont tristes à pleurer
Comme un sourire de clown
Comme la pluie sur l'été
Lorsque je me suis barré
Laissez bé-tom)
Renaud's song 'La Boum' is about the disappointment and boredom felt by a young man at a party that he was looking forward to attending, but which ultimately left him feeling disillusioned. The lyrics describe his expectations, which were set by his friends who told him that he would have a good time because there might be a girl, Sylvie, who would be there; and he wouldn't have to worry because he was popular and she wasn't bad looking. However, Sylvie didn't show up, and he ended up playing the third wheel to his friends. The second verse talks about his disappointment with the ratio of girls to guys, 12 to 80, and his disdain for the awkward and poorly organized group activities, such as the "quart d'heure américain" (a game where couples kiss each other for 15 minutes). He also mocks the group's musical taste, which centers around the latest David Bowie record. The final verse describes his interactions with various groups of people at the party, including some petty thieves and law enforcement officers, who end up giving him a fine for a frivolous reason.
The overall tone of the song is one of disillusionment with the concept of parties, which are supposed to be fun and exciting, but are instead filled with disappointment and apathy. Renaud paints a picture of a generation of young people who are unimpressed with the world around them and are looking for something more meaningful. The lyrics are a commentary on the shallowness of social life and the loneliness that often accompanies it.
