World Burn
Reneé Rapp Cast of Mean Girls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My name is Regina George
And I am a massive deal
I will grind you to sand
Beneath my Louboutin heel
This is what I get for helping
Helping someone lame fit in
Cady Heron, enjoy your temporary win, mmm
My name is Regina George
This girl is a fugly cow
Hey Cady, how you like me now?

I wanna watch the world burn
I brought the gasoline
I wanna watch the world burn
And everyone get mean
I wanna watch the world burn
I got the gasoline
I wanna watch the world burn
And everyone get mean

Cady, time to watch your back
Cady, time to turn and cough
Because you took me down
But you didn't finish me off
My name is Regina George
And in case you're keeping score
Cady may have won the battle
But I will win the war

I wanna watch the world burn
(Trang Pham is a grotsky biotch)
I got the gasoline
(Ms. Norbury's a drug pusher)
Mm, I wanna make the world burn
(Janis is a pyro les)
Regina is a fugly cow
Regina is a fugly cow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "World Burn" by Reneé Rapp as performed in the musical "Mean Girls" provide a deep insight into the character of Regina George and her powerful sense of vindictiveness. Regina introduces herself with an air of superiority and dominance, establishing her status as a significant figure with the ability to break others down with ease. Her reference to wearing Louboutin heels conveys her wealth and luxury, emphasizing her ruthless nature in stomping on those who cross her path. She reflects on her past actions of trying to help someone unpopular fit in, only to face betrayal and manipulation in return by Cady Heron. This betrayal fuels Regina's desire to watch the world burn, symbolizing her thirst for revenge and chaos.

Regina's fixation on appearance and judgement is further evident in her derogatory remarks towards Cady, referring to her as a "fugly cow" and relishing in the reversal of their dynamic. The lyrics capture Regina's vindictive and vengeful nature as she revels in the downfall of her former friend turned enemy. The repetition of her name and the aggressive tone in which she delivers her lines emphasize her determination to come out on top despite setbacks. Regina's declaration that while Cady may have won a battle, she will ultimately win the war highlights her resilience and unwavering drive for power and control.

The chorus of the song, where Regina expresses her desire to watch the world burn and revel in chaos and cruelty, serves as a metaphor for her inner turmoil and desire for revenge. She metaphorically holds the gasoline, symbolizing her ability to ignite conflict and destruction. The lyrics suggest Regina's penchant for manipulation and cruelty, as she takes pleasure in causing pain and watching others turn mean in response to her actions. The repetition of the chorus underscores Regina's unwavering determination to see her vision of chaos and destruction come to fruition, regardless of the consequences.

In the final verse, Regina continues to list off insults towards various individuals in her life, projecting her negativity onto those around her. The references to specific characters who have wronged her further highlight her vindictive nature and desire for revenge. The song culminates in Regina's declaration of wanting to watch the world burn, signaling her willingness to embrace darkness and destruction to achieve her goals. Overall, the lyrics of "World Burn" provide a chilling insight into Regina George's character, portraying her as a complex and multifaceted antagonist driven by a deep desire for power and control at any cost.

i love the way her voice has matured singing this song since being on broadway

@dkotadixon6776

Factssss ❤❤❤

@ChocoBerry_12

But the instrumental sucks in my opinion, it just doesn’t have the same energy and just feels like Hollywood… that’s why I don’t really like musicals being turned into movies, movies being turned into musicals are better in my opinion, but Renee’s voice has definitely matured like you said. It’s just breath taking.
