adore
Renee Stahl Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Would you take me down
Would you turn if I found
Would you let me round
If I found everything
Everything so fast
Everything
When you hold
I can feel your heart
When you hold me near

I was on the ferris wheel that overlooked the sea
you were on the chair next to me
is it truth or fantasy we're choosing to believe
and then you turned your head and said to me

I adore you
I adore you tonight

looking through the telescope upon a distant star
makes us feel much larger than we are
in all the days I've travelled I have never come this far
I can't believe that this is where we are

cause I adore you
I adore you tonight
I adore you
I adore you tonight

tu es mon amour
End

Overall Meaning

Renee Stahl's song Adore is a romantic ballad that speaks to the closeness and connection shared between two people. The song opens with questions, asking if the other person would take the singer down or turn if she found something. These questions demonstrate a willingness to share and explore life with the other person. The lyrics then shift to describe the intense feelings that arise when the two individuals are close. The singer can feel their heart when the other person holds her, creating a sense of completeness and satisfaction that only comes from true love.

The second verse paints a vivid picture of the setting for the encounter. The two are riding a ferris wheel overlooking the sea. This romantic setting further underscores the closeness and connection shared between the two individuals. The lyrics also suggest that the singer wonders if their relationship is based on truth or fantasy. Despite these lingering doubts, the other person turns to the singer and says the central phrase of the song, "I adore you." This one phrase captures the depth of their feelings and solidifies the bond between them.

The chorus repeats this central phrase, emphasizing the importance of the words and the emotions behind them. As the song progresses, the singer describes the feeling of looking through a telescope at a distant star. This experience makes them feel larger than they are and emphasizes the beauty and vastness of the universe. Despite all the traveling and experiences the singer has had, they have never come as far as they have with the other person. The song ends with a French phrase, "tu es mon amour," which translates to "you are my love," further emphasizing the deep connection and love shared between the two individuals.

This work of art is very good. I agree with the 90's style music video (arguably the best times for music videos) and the hauntingly beautiful lyrics are mesmerizing. I would definetly be very interested in seeing more of this style and quality of artistry. I would say this work is in class with Sarah McLachlin and Dido, and hope that more is produced along the lines of this particular piece. 5 star quality.
