Heroes
Reprazent / Roni Size Lyrics

i dont' know no hero
they can get the glory
the can get the glory
and then they kiss you and tell you that they're satisfied

oh oh save me a hero

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Roni Size's song "Heroes" convey a sense of disillusionment with the concept of heroism. The singer declares that they do not know any heroes, suggesting that the idealized figures of bravery and selflessness are either rare or nonexistent. However, the idea of heroism is still tempting, as evidenced by the plea to "save me a hero." The repetition of "they can get the glory" implies that heroism is often more about personal recognition than true altruism. The final line, "and then they kiss you and tell you that they're satisfied," adds a layer of cynicism, suggesting that heroes may be motivated more by ego and self-satisfaction than a genuine desire to help others.

Overall, the lyrics suggest a complicated relationship with the idea of heroism. On the one hand, there is a sense of longing for an idealized figure who can save the singer. On the other hand, there is a recognition that heroism is often more about personal gain than true altruism. This tension is heightened by the repetition of the phrase "they can get the glory," which suggests both attraction and skepticism towards the idea of being a hero.

One of my stand-out Glastonbury moments ever was in 2000 watching Roni Size perform this, with Onallee's voice haunting across the crowd. Still sends shivers even 20+ ytears later.

I've always alled Roni Size's music "patient drum and bass". It's never in a rush to go where it goes, it just flows niiiiicely and shows its musical progression on a near-intuitive level.
