Search Me Lord
Rev. Charles Nicks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You know I'm like
I'm like a ship that's
Tossed and driven Ooh Lord
Battered by by an angry
By an angry sea
Oooh Lord
But you know when
When the storms of life
Keep on raging
Raging against me
I said Jesus
Father I may have to cry sometime
But Lord Remember Me
Lord Remember Me
Ooh Lord Listen
Lord Remember Me

Sometimes
Feels like the weight of the world Is bearing down
On my shoulders
Oooh Lord
You know sometimes
I'm burdened down in sorrows
And misery Ooh Lord
But you know when
When the storms of life
Keep on raging
Raging against me
I said Jesus
Father if you find me Worthy
Remember Me
Lord Remember Me
Ooh Lord
Lord Remember Me

You know I read about it
Read about the Hebrew Children
Shadrach Meshach
And old Abednego
They threw them down
In that old fiery furnace
It was 10 times hotter
Than it ought to be
I read about Daniel
Oh I read about Daniel
You went down and you shut that old lion up
And you let Daniel go free
I said Jesus
If you find me Worthy
Remember Me
Lord Remember Me
Ooh Lord
Lord Remember Me

Remember Me Father
Remember Me Jesus
When I'm going through my trials
And tribulations Lord
See there were two men up there
Hanging on the cross
Just to share his agony
One man said
If you be the Christ
Come down from there
And save me
The other man said
When you make it to your kingdom
Remember Me
Lord Remember Me
Oooh Lord
Lord Remember Me

Lord Remember Me
Lord Remember Me
Lord Remember Me
Lord Remember Me

Overall Meaning

The above lyrics are a combination of two hymns, "Adon Olam" and "Search Me Lord", both of which are hymns of praise and worship, expressing trust in God's power, mercy, and love. "Adon Olam", which is of Jewish origin, praises God for His sovereignty and power as creator and ruler of the universe, while "Search Me Lord" is a Christian hymn that is based on Psalm 139, expressing the desire for God to search and examine one's heart and cleanse it of sin.

The use of both hymns in combination highlights the shared values and beliefs between Judaism and Christianity. The lyrics express a deep trust in God and His ability to provide guidance, strength, and protection in times of trouble. They speak to the powerful and transformative nature of faith and the role it can play in helping us navigate life's challenges.

This takes me waaaay back to church in the late 1950's--early 1970's! "WHILE I'M DOWN HERE PRAYING, LORD, SEARCH MY HEART!" A great song of introspection, asking God to search our hearts--and make us pure!! YES! Our black churches MUST recapture this SOUND and the SUPERIOR TEXTS OF THESE SONGS!!!
