Medley
Rev. Milton Biggham Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am thine O Lord
I have heard thy voice
And it told thy love to me
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to thee

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To the cross where thou has died
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To thy precious bleeding side

Saviour, saviour hear my humble prayer
While on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by

Now thank we all our God
With hearts and hands and voices
Who wonderous things hath done
In whom His world rejoices
Who from our mothers' arms
Hath blessed us our way

With countless gifts of love
And still is ours today

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Rev. Milton Biggham's song "Medley" express a deep longing for a closer relationship with God. The opening lines, "I am thine O Lord, I have heard thy voice," reveal a recognition of God's presence and love. The desire to rise in the arms of faith and be closer to God signifies a yearning for a stronger connection and a deeper understanding of His divine nature.

The repetition of the phrase "Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord" emphasizes the plea to be brought closer to God and to experience the power of His sacrifice on the cross. The reference to the "precious bleeding side" further highlights the importance of Jesus' crucifixion in the believer's life and the desire to be in close proximity to His redeeming love.

The following lines, "Saviour, saviour hear my humble prayer, while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by," convey a sense of urgency and vulnerability. The singer recognizes that God is reaching out to others but fervently pleads not to be overlooked. This prayerful request reflects a humble recognition of one's own need for God's grace and a sincere desire to be included in His plan.

The final portion of the song shifts the focus from personal contemplation to communal gratitude. The lyrics "Now thank we all our God, with hearts and hands and voices, who wondrous things hath done" express gratitude for the wonders and blessings that God has bestowed upon His people. The acknowledgement of God's goodness, starting from the blessings received from mothers, resonates with the theme of gratitude and the understanding that God's love extends far beyond individual experiences.

Overall, Rev. Milton Biggham's "Medley" portrays a heartfelt yearning for a deeper connection with God, a plea for His presence, and a communal expression of gratitude for His abundant love and blessings.

Where did we go wrong...we need this back in our churches!!!

@marilynwillett804

no you do not, you need Jesus, church is not entertainment, where is Jesus in all of this?

@vrai6219

The church allowed the devil to destroy mass gospel choirs and don't even realise the cost of this. If you've been in the presence of a choir singing like this, God always shows up, the anointing is incredible and people start getting saved. It is imperative that the church wakes up and bring these God ordained ministries back to the church.

That's because when you have a relationship with Jesus it surpasses just the mind and goes to the spirit. Dementia is of the mind, not the spirit. A relationship with Him supersedes the basic and goes to the core, to the heart. It transcends this life. I have often heard my pastor say that even if he lost his competency he would still know Jesus is God. This world is temporal, fleeting at best. Building a relationship with Him is lasting.
