Unborn
Reveille Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I think the hearse went by
Shut the fuck up and listen
Before you're down to nothing without a pot to piss in
Your missing the point that I'm mapping on this chart-
Everything we could be, everything we're not
Come on, give it all you got
A noose for my hurt- feel it jerking me loose
Been lathing abuse and it's breaking me up
I'm bordering final and enough's enough
You keep sucking on your own dick, your bound to break your neck
I think that I detect a sick sign of self respect
What did I expect, I expected so much more from myself
Now why can't I open my eyes?
I think I'm fucking dead
We all fall, we all, we all fall down
We all fall, we're all falling, falling down
Crucified, purified lullaby- unborn
Dressed like a costume party, everybody in disguise
See the mask on your face but it won't hide your eyes
My demise marks my birth, unborn into light
Now you want to take me,
Show me wrong from right?
Well you can kiss my paraphilia
And you can kiss my sadicide
I want to thank you for your welcome
Let me carve the shit out from inside
It's only a dream, cry yourself back to sleep
Let your mind seep down where all secrets keep
Deep beneath the calm surface a serpents eyes open wide-
A breath of death in its lies
Unborn
Unborn and I'm born again
That old man, damn, he sure can talk
He said that I fucked jesus in a trailer park
N' that ain't the truth, it was in the ritz hotel
I wore a condom so I wouldn't burn in hell
Maybe I'm dead
Denial still stings in these lifeless eyes
The song "Unborn" by Reveille addresses a range of complex issues including self-doubt, abuse, identity and rebirth. The song starts with the lyrics "You better check your pulse, I think the hearse went by" which can be interpreted as a metaphor for death. The following lyrics "Shut the fuck up and listen, Before you're down to nothing without a pot to piss in, Your missing the point that I'm mapping on this chart- Everything we could be, everything we're not" alludes to the need to reflect on one's life and take responsibility for one's actions. The chorus "We all fall down, crucified, purified lullaby- unborn" can be interpreted as a commentary on the cyclical nature of life, the concept of rebirth and also a critique of organized religion.
The lyrics in the second and third verses are more introspective and deal with internal struggles like self-doubt, self-harm, and self-destruction. The haunting line "All I've got is an excuse, A noose for my hurt- feel it jerking me loose" suggests the pain of not being able to cope with an internal conflict. The lyrics "I'm bordering final and enough's enough, You keep sucking on your own dick, your bound to break your neck" can be interpreted as a warning to those who are self-absorbed and self-destructive.

You better check your pulse,
I think the hearse went by
Take a look at yourself and make sure you're still alive because it seems like death has passed you by.
Shut the fuck up and listen
Before you're down to nothing without a pot to piss in
Your missing the point that I'm mapping on this chart-
Everything we could be, everything we're not
Come on, give it all you got
Be quiet and pay attention because if you don't, you'll end up with nothing but regrets. I'm pointing out what we could achieve and what we're wasting. So don't hold back, give it all you have.
All I've got is an excuse,
A noose for my hurt- feel it jerking me loose
Been lathing abuse and it's breaking me up
I'm bordering final and enough's enough
All I can come up with is an explanation, it doesn't help. It's as if a rope has been tied around my pain and it is slowly consuming me. The trauma is taking its toll on me, and I'm reaching a point where I can't keep going.
You keep sucking on your own dick, your bound to break your neck
I think that I detect a sick sign of self respect
What did I expect, I expected so much more from myself
Now why can't I open my eyes?
I think I'm fucking dead
If you keep stroking your ego, it's only a matter of time before you fall hard. I sense that you're masking your insecurities behind arrogance, which is concerning. I had high expectations for myself, but I'm not meeting them, and it feels like I'm stuck in a rut.
We all fall, we all, we all fall down
We all fall, we're all falling, falling down
Crucified, purified lullaby- unborn
We all struggle and face adversity, and it feels like we're all sinking at times. It's as if we're being punished, cleansed, and soothed all at once - like the idea of being an unborn child.
Dressed like a costume party, everybody in disguise
See the mask on your face but it won't hide your eyes
My demise marks my birth, unborn into light
Now you want to take me,
Show me wrong from right?
We're all pretending to be someone else. You can put on a show, but you can't hide the truth in your eyes. My supposed 'failure' is just the beginning for me. I'm about to be in the spotlight – Will you help me distinguish the right path from the wrong one?
Well you can kiss my paraphilia
And you can kiss my sadicide
I want to thank you for your welcome
Let me carve the shit out from inside
It's only a dream, cry yourself back to sleep
Let your mind seep down where all secrets keep
Deep beneath the calm surface a serpents eyes open wide-
A breath of death in its lies
I don't care what you think of me. Thank you for making me aware of what's wrong with me, and now I can fix it. What's happening to me is surreal and not real, so go ahead and go to sleep. Tread lightly, as beneath the surface lies a dangerous truth, which can harm you.
Unborn
Unborn and I'm born again
Although I haven't been born yet, I feel like I'm getting a second chance.
That old man, damn, he sure can talk
He said that I fucked jesus in a trailer park
N' that ain't the truth, it was in the ritz hotel
I wore a condom so I wouldn't burn in hell
That old guy is a chatterbox. He's spreading untrue rumors about me, and though it's not accurate, I'm still going to defend myself. Jesus and I didn't meet in any trailer park, it was somewhere much more luxurious - the Ritz-Carlton. And I was safe, even if it does go against Christian teachings.
Maybe I'm dead
Denial still stings in these lifeless eyes
It's possible that I'm already dead. Alternatively, maybe I don't feel alive, but there's still some hope that things will improve. My refusal to accept the situation still hurts, even if I'm not living.
