In October 2006, following extensive touring and having built up a hardcore fanbase, the band signed to Wall of Sound records. Their first single "Heavyweight Champion of the World" recieved good airplay on Radio 1 and hit the UK Top 10, and has become of this summer's anthems for many clubbers and festival goers alike, appealing to fans of both dance and indie.
Another single (He Said He Loved Me) is to be released at the end of August, alongside an album (State Of Things) in September.

Reverend and the Makers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I stay in bed past midday,
But in the night time I play,
Smash up your hotel it's okay.
I wanna get away, on my holiday.
I wanna get away, on my holiday.
Won't see the sun 'til I've got four
Put on my best shirt, I'm gonna score
Six San Miguels and we'll hit the floor.
I wanna get away, on my holiday.
La la la la la la
I wanna get away, on my holiday.
La la la la la la
Je je je je suis anglais
I know you think that we're all the same
And causing trouble is our forte
Portugal, France, Greece or Spain
I wanna get away, on a holiday.
La la la la la la
I wanna get away, on a holiday.
I wanna get away, on a holiday.
La la la la la la
I wanna get away, on a holiday
You rotate the lounger as the sun goes round
Screaming royal brittania while the shit goes down
Never wanna get away, I wanna get away from you.
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
The song “18-30” by Reverend and the Makers is a commentary on British youth culture, specifically the behavior of British tourists on holiday in popular European destinations. The song opens with the repeated phrase “Je suis anglais” (“I am English” in French), which sets up the theme of English (and more broadly British) tourism abroad. The lyrics describe a desire to escape normal life and indulge in hedonistic behavior, with lines like “I stay in bed past midday, But in the night time I play, Smash up your hotel it's okay” and “Six San Miguels and we'll hit the floor”. The song also touches on the stereotype of British tourists as rowdy and disruptive, with lines like “And causing trouble is our forte”.
Despite the focus on partying and reckless behavior, there is also an underlying sense of longing for something more meaningful in the song. The repeated phrase “I wanna get away, on my holiday” suggests a desire to escape from the monotony and emptiness of everyday life, while the closing lines of the song, “Never wanna get away, I wanna get away from you” hint at the frustration and disillusionment that lies at the heart of the song.
