My Hope
Revive Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What have we gained in the wake of our success?
I don't want to live like this, how can we live like this?
What have we done that will be remembered?
What have we built that is everlasting?
I don't want to live like this, how can we live like this?
My hope is found in you
Breath will fail us, time will leave us
My hope is found in you
Where will we go when the day is ending?
What will we hold when it all comes to an end?
I don't want to live like this, how can we live like this?
Kings will fall down, cities will crumble
My hope is found in You
Breath will fail us, time will leave us
My hope is found in You, in you
My hope is found in You
This is the chance to make it
This is the chance to make it
I'm gonna stand with You alone
Kings will fall down, cities will crumble
My hope is found in You
Breath will fail us, time will leave us
My hope is found in you, in You alone,You alone
The lyrics in Revive’s song “My Hope” are reflective and introspective, posing questions about progress, success, and the worth and meaning of our endeavors. The singer seems disillusioned and exhausted by the seeming futility of it all, questioning what we have really accomplished and what impact, if any, it will have in the long run. The refrain emphasizes the ephemeral nature of all things earthly, including kings and cities, which, despite any grandeur or power they may possess, are ultimately subject to collapse and decay. Against this backdrop, the singer finds hope and solace in something greater and more eternal, namely, a relationship with an unnamed “You” that seems to represent a higher power or deity. This entity is the source of a hope that transcends the chaos and impermanence of the world and provides a sense of stability and purpose.
One interpretation of this song is that it is a lament for the modern condition, in which human progress and technological advancement have led to unprecedented prosperity and convenience, but at a great cost to the environment, human relationships, and spiritual fulfillment. The singer seems to be deeply troubled by the disconnection and alienation that result from a world that values efficiency, productivity, and quantifiable results above all else. However, rather than resigning to despair, the singer clings to a “You” that represents a realm beyond human understanding and control, where true hope and purpose can be found.
In conclusion, “My Hope” by Revive is a call to reflection and introspection, inviting the listener to consider what truly matters in life and where ultimate hope and solace can be found. It speaks to the tension between the necessary drive for progress and the human need for meaning and connection, and ultimately points to a higher power as the source of hope in the midst of impermanence and chaos.
