Seth MacFarlane is briliant and I can say from a British angle that his take off of Stewie is spot on. I wondered if it was really Rex Harrison but having listened to Rex recently, it is Rex. Btw, Rex Harrison was as heterosexual as they come.

Seth Macfarlane is amazing at doing and acting out voices, and singing!! However, you have to acknowledge Hank Azaria and Dan Castallaneta for their amazing work on the Simpsons as well.

I actually thought Stewie was supposed to be a posh American for a long time! And besides, the way they portray any culture is basically just the cartoon stereotype x 100 in over-the-top-ness. Don't take it to heart, it's just a bit of a laugh :) Also just to add, personally I love Seth and I also love it when an American who obviously can't do a British accent does one, puts me in stitches every time!

I have met Seth Macfarlane and his line about British people being evil if there is any justice was about the fact that our voices are perfect for that evil villain stereotype. Just look at many of the classic villains for example hans Gruber.

It's comedy man. It's not meant to be analyzed for negative moralities or remarks. Being American, do you think I enjoy how the rest of the world stereotypes us as obese, or cognitively inept? No, obviously I don't, but I just laugh along, and to be frank, many of the jokes they make are funny!

Almost 100% of what he does is Satire. So if he does something "offensive," it's virtually guaranteed he is actually just satirizing Hollywood/London/Hong Kong or something of that sort. In many movies, (especially Hong Kong ones haha), British people have an unnaturally high percentage of Bad Guy roles. (Well, the Germans got it even worse, but I digress). When he says those things, he's making fun of this injustice. Same as all the other injustices he makes fun of that get him into hot water

I think Seth's take on Rex for Stewie is far better, far funnier and far more commanding than Rex himself ever was. Stewie's got far more punch! Especially considering he's only a baby :)

There's a scene in Drop Dead Fred where he gets his head stuck in the fridge and when he pulls it out he has a Stewie shaped head. The Young Ones also had cutaway gags similar to Family Guy.

The British, and English in particular, have that rare ability to be evil but in a disarmingly polite, charming manner, and camp in a way that women go mad over. It's that uniquely eccentric, round-about approach that few other cultures have managed. Americans some times like to mock it, but it works. To be fair to mcfarlane, he has played up other, more positive, british stereotypes, such as their persuasiveness and knack for winning arguments.

I always thought stewie was based on The late Rik Mayall who was an awesome comedian and actor. There is a lot of Richard Richard of 'bottom' and Lord flash heart from 'blackadder' in stewie.

+HolloVVpoint - those comedies didn't cross the Atlantic as far as I can tell, as nobody I know here in the US knows them. But probably Rik Mayall (yes, loved him) et al took a lesson or two from Rex Harrison who was, after all, a generation or two before them.

Many people do associate speech patterns with gayness and type cast so to speak but when they see James Dean from old movie or off scree interview they don't realize he was and it came out with solid evidence some years ago with letters to his "friend" and was authenticated by handwriting expects and other proof. What regional accent would you associate Rex harrison voice with; would it be Cockney or other.
