I sang this song to my dad when he was lost in the disease of Alzheimer’s. I sang this to him as he died . He always responded in some way. He was a true romantic and recognized this song right up to the end. I’m glad I watched all these old films with my parents.

This song will always remind me of my parents. My mother and father and us kids would gather around the piano every once in a while and sing songs (and show tunes were always my parents' favorites). My mother would play the piano, and beg my shy father to come and sing with us (he has a gorgeous voice, even now at 88). But this song in particular is so good - the lyrics, the soaring melody - just so beautiful to listen to, and wonderful to sing as well!

William Shirley, his voice dubbed in for Jeremy Brett as Freddy. According to Wikipedia, the singer went uncredited, and Brett did not admit that that Shirley sang the song until after the singer's death. Thank goodness for Youtube, where such things can become known and lesser-known artists receive their due.

Would this wonderful film work today if this remade in 2022. Henry Higgins would be dead. Freddy would either be dead or still waiting outside Eliza's house more than 50 years later for her to come out. Eliza Doolittle herself would be old, frail and put quite a bit of weight. The film today would be remade as My Square Lady.

It's not him singing, it was dubbed, by a Mr. Shirley, although Jeremy had a beautiful voice and I think he would have sounded just as good, maybe better. He tells about it in an interview - that he was devastated they dubbed him, apparently he didn't know about it beforehand.

As always a hopeless romantic since the age of awareness and a musician as well, this movie came out about the time that I was in my last years of elementary. This one particular song totally swept me off my feet. A truly believable one about the many virtues of non-pretentious pure love and romanticism.

This is also a great example of why I can rarely get into modern musicals. It's not mainly about the values of past times, but about caring when it comes to proper scoring and musical training, which makes all the difference in the world. You can be a decent pop singer with no proper musical training, but for a great musical, you need it.

Even though these are grown adults who have had infatuations or crushes on people before, I love how this song is about the first budding flush and obsession you feel when you are crushing on someone. Even just being on the street where they live feels so exciting and anxiety-inducing. You can still feel it later in life albeit not as intense as when you were younger

I am surprised that more tenors haven't covered this song. It's a traditionally lyric tenor part, beautiful and romantic, yet other than Julian Ovenden I don't know of any other covers. Sad because it's so lovely in melody and a showcase for a good tenor

Is it not traditionally a high baritone? The highest note is an F. A strong bass could sing that. The singer in this version was a tenor/yric baritone.

Saw this while in high school, long, long time ago, not many years after it came out. It just completely nailed the naïve, infatuation, of a young man back in the day. You would just drive by the street of the girl, and this song would play in your head.. Years later, allot of ups and downs including ugly divorce, it was all gone. In fact, the girl I thought about when this came out, just died last year. I had not seen her in almost 50 years, but I still sent flowers... Youth is wasted on the young.

Out of nowhere the other day, while in my kitchen and cooking up something fun to eat, I started humming this tune. Wonderful Jeremy I was always made to believe that he was the only one that did sing in this film as he was a professional singer, also as a side note he would of been the right age here to play Sherlock Holmes, not as so often played by older actors but he was marvellous wasn't he.

A marvelous ballad and one of the most beloved songs from the musical theater. The irony is that in the play the song is sung by the impractical romantic with little money, who is all talk and no action -- or "Words, words, words" as Eliza Doolittle later chides him. The Alan Jay Lerner book is far more subtle than most musicals, and even the title, "My Fair Lady," was a stroke of genius, all set to music by Frederick Loewe. No other musical integrated the sung and spoken lines so well. This is the gold standard.

Being a jazzman, my gateway to this beautiful song was via Brad Mehldau. I love this kind of innocent romanticism: "I want to drink in the street where she lives". Such statement actually make sense when you´re in love. I could always relate to this gentemens style (some of us are still around out there) Beautiful song, beautiful voice and for the music nerds: the dim seventh chord rules ;-)

My late fathers favourite musical. This piece... reminds me of a friend (my age) who did some amateur musicals with him in the day. Few ladies would appreciate this being "done" in good voice, she's one. I probably don't QUITE hit this so well but... damn close :D

I love the intro to this song, its the best ever. I loved it as a kid and still love it. "When she mentioned how her aunt bit off the spoon she completely done me in and my heart on a journey to the moon when she told about her father and the gin. But I never heard such amusing farce than the moment when she shouted move your bloomin .. " And then Mona Washbourne opens the door at the perfect time. Brillliant.
