This track has been teased since the album was announced late in January 2022, leaving many excited for another collaboration with Tyler, The Creator.
The song was released on March 09, 2022 after Rex announced the song’s release for the Wednesday prior to the release of “WHO CARES?” on Twitter.
"OPEN A WINDOW" finds Rex reuniting with Tyler, the Creator, who glides clean across Benny Sings' production on his guest verse. Rex's songwriting reminds me of a time when we weren't allowed to leave our homes and an open window seemed like freedom. The fresh track sees the two frequent collaborators highlighting their chemistry, with Tyler perfectly suiting Rex’s breezy production style. It recalls the sound of Tyler’s album "Flower Boy", which was also the first time the two musicians released music together with the tracks “Foreword” and “Boredom,” also featuring Anna of the North. Tyler is the sole feature on the record, which was produced with Dutch songwriter and record producer Benny Sings over the course of multiple studio sessions in Amsterdam at the end of 2020.
Open a Window

Can somebody open the door?
There's so many reasons
I can barely take it anymore
Stuck here and I never seem to get away, but I'll hang on
Seasons change, but you don't ever
Oh, soon as I can see your face, I'm fine I'm sure
So can I open a window?
Can somebody open the door?
There's so many reasons
I can barely take it anymore
Fuck this, I might leave the people tellin' me what I should do
They want change, but you don't ever
Oh, tryin' to ignore the thought of wanting to
But every single time that I do, I'm like, um
Could I open a window?
Can somebody open the door?
There's so many reasons
I can barely take it anymore, no
Yeah, see what the fuck? Niggas feelin' stuck, really feelin' stuck
Like the middle car on freeway pile up with semi-trucks
Open door, but you can't, try to run, but you pant
Out of breath, you can't vent, 'cause the AC actin' up
Nah, really, if somethin' feelin' dirty to me
At the roots like a tree, see, I just up and I leave
It ain't pertainin' to me, I don't engage, I don't care
They like, "You get it?" I'm like, "Yeah", and get the fuck out of here
See, I concur, I'm modest, I'm Tyler, I'm honest
I never bite my tongue, it's for the better, I promise
You stuck, then move, because I'm running, like sinus
I knows they quiet like that last E in, "Silence" (yeah)
There's so many reasons
I can barely take it anymore, no
The song "Open a Window" by Rex Orange County and Tyler The Creator is a compelling expression of feeling trapped and desperate for an escape from one's current situation. The repeated question of whether someone can open a window or the door is symbolic of the need for a way out of a stifling environment. The singer is overwhelmed by their circumstances, as there are "so many reasons" that they cannot take it anymore. However, they are still "tryna find a way to get out" and looking for any opportunity to escape.
Tyler The Creator's contributions to the song add another layer of meaning. He speaks of feeling stuck, comparing it to being trapped in an accident on the freeway. He advocates for leaving behind anything that makes one feel "dirty" or uncomfortable, stating that he doesn't engage with situations that aren't relevant to him. He acknowledges that he is honest and straightforward, never holding back his opinions. Overall, the lyrics of "Open a Window" express a shared struggle to find a way out of a suffocating situation, whether mental or physical.
