Rhythms del Mundo is a nonprofit collaborative album, which fuses an all-star cast of Cuban muscians including Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo of the the Buena Vista Social Club with tracks from US, UK and Irish artists such as U2, Coldplay, Sting, Jack Johnson and Maroon 5 , Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs and many others.
Background
Kenny Young, Founder and Trustee of APE, explains how the project emerged: "The project was sparked off by the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. The idea came in to do a project with The Buena Vista Social Club to fuse their Latin sounds with Western artists and their familiar popular songs. The project evolved when more environmental disasters struck -- the Asian Earthquakes and Hurricane Katrina. But the big picture was climate change. You can call these natural disasters but after all the research and scientific data, we know that we're at least partly to blame for some of these disasters. Global warming is now in the news daily. If we don't act in the time frame our experts give us, our grandchildren will curse us eternally."
Thom Yorke comments, "We need a law, we need to have the Government put climate change in its place. If you leave industry to sort it out on a voluntary basis that's never going to happen. So everybody, if they've got any concerns about climate, change has to register that concern with their Government officials because it's the only way to go."[1]
Charity
Album proceeds will benefit the environmental nonprofit organization Artists' Project Earth (APE), which raises funds for disaster relief efforts and climate change awareness. The artists on this album fully support the record as a show of commitment to the music and to the cause that it endorses.
Music
The main recording sessions took place in Havana at Abdala Studios from April 2005 to June 2006. While the majority of the vocals remain the same, the musicans of the Buena Vista Social Club took the original orchestration from each song and created something utterly unique, casting their trademark mastery over each track. "Rhythms Del Mundo" includes reworked tracks such as "Clocks" by Coldplay, "Better Together" by Jack Johnson, "She Will be Loved" by Maroon 5, "High and Dry" by Radiohead and "Dancing Shoes" by Arctic Monkeys.
"Rhythms Del Mundo" also includes music by famed Cuban singers Omara Portuondo and the last vocal recording of Afro-Cuban bolero singer, Ibrahim Ferrer, who passed away in 2005. The other Cuban musicians from The Buena Vista Social Club who perform on this album are as follows: Barbarito Torres, Amandito Valdes, Virgilio Valdes, Angel Terri Domech, Manuel 'Guajiro' Mirabal, Orlando Lopez 'Cachaito' and Demetrio Muniz. This project is the brainchild and concept of Kenny Young and the Berman Brothers. The trio also produced the 16 new original recordings on the CD.

Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
(Change) Sha, sha (Change) ba da (Change), sha ba da (Change)
City's breaking down on a camel's back
They just have to go 'cause they don't know whack
So while you fill the streets, it's appealing to see
You won't get undercounted 'cause you're damned and free
You got a new horizon, it's ephemeral style
A melancholy town where we never smile
And all I wanna hear is the message beep
My dreams, they got her kissing, 'cause I don't get sleep, no
Windmill, windmill for the land
Turn forever hand in hand
Take it all in on your stride
It is ticking, falling down
Love forever, love has freely
Turned forever you and me
Windmill, windmill for the land
Is everybody in?
Laughin' gas these hazmats, fast cats
Linin' 'em up like ass cracks
Play these ponies at the track
It's my chocolate attack
Shit, I'm steppin' in the heart of this here (yeah)
Care Bear rappin' in harder this year (yeah)
Watch me as I gravitate, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Yo, we gon' ghost town this Motown
With yo' sound, you in the blink
Gon' bite the dust, can't fight with us
With yo' sound, you kill the Inc.
So don't stop, get it, get it (get it)
Until you're cheddar head
And watch the way I navigate, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha (Ha! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha)
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Windmill, windmill for the land
Turn forever hand in hand
Take it all in on your stride
It is ticking, falling down
Love forever, love has freely
Turned forever you and me
Windmill, windmill for the land
Is everybody in?
Don't stop, get it, get it
Peep how your captain's in it
Steady, watch me navigate, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Don't stop, get it, get it
Peep how your captain's in it
Steady, watch me navigate, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good

Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
Sha, sha ba da, sha ba da, Feel Good
The lyrics to Rhythms Del Mundo Gorillaz's song "Feel Good Inc." are complex and multi-layered, creating a dystopian world that's both fascinating and frightening. The song begins with a series of ha-has, setting an eerily celebratory tone that underscores the main message of the song: the negative consequences of complacency and the pursuit of short-term pleasures. The lyrics describe a city that's "breaking down on a camel's back" because the people there "don't know whack." This highlights the fact that society as a whole is in trouble because individuals focus too much on their own happiness and pleasure.
The song goes on to describe how the pursuit of pleasure and entertainment has become an obsession in this society, as people fill the streets to distract themselves from their problems. They've lost their sense of purpose, becoming "damned and free" in the process. The lyrics also suggest that our society is becoming increasingly disconnected and melancholy, as people stop smiling and seek refuge in their dreams. The windmill represents the force that keeps things moving forward in a world that's become stagnant, while love is the one thing that can still free us from the cycle of superficial pleasures and emptiness.
Overall, the lyrics to "Feel Good Inc." are a call to arms for listeners, asking them to question their own motivations and look beyond the superficial pleasures of modern civilization to find true meaning and fulfillment.
