Ric's father, born in Malasiqui, Pangasinan, educated at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, was a medic with the rank of Captain in the Philippine Army during World War II, was captured by Japanese soldiers and made to march in the Bataan Death March and imprisoned on Corregidor Island. After the War, Dr. Macaraeg travelled to the United States and attended Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Macaraeg was the first Filipino diplomate to the F.A.C.S.
Both Ric's parent's love for music influenced Ric's interest in music and singing. The family moved to the Philippines in 1957 where his father set up a physician's practice. Ric went to Lourdes school in Quezon City. The family then moved to Guam in 1959, where growing up in a milder environment furthered Ric's interest in the performing arts. Ric played in rock bands with his brother, and the grandsons of Filipino composer Nicanor Abelardo. At the ages of 12 and 13, The Asteroids, Ric's band members, played military bars and were not even old enough to drive.
Ric was then sent back to the Philippines to attend high school at the Ateneo de Manila. While there he became fast friends with Jim Paredes, later forming The Apo Hiking Society. After a year at Ateneo, Ric returned to Guam. He then formed a band that included his brother called the Salvation Army, singing and playing all over the island every weekend till he finished out his high school. Going to college made Ric look to the States and choosing Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, he majored in history.
On September 6, 1998 at around 12:15 PM, on a Sunday, Ric was riding his motorcycle from his home in Makati. He was killed in an accident on the Makati - Buendia Flyover, when he ran into or was hit by debris, possibly caused by workers on a construction project.
Angela
Ric Segreto Lyrics

The magic of your charm
You say you need me here
To keep you safe from harm
Will these words just pass
Before the morning comes
You've got me laying on a chance
Playin' the game of hearts
Like colors in the past
But in the end I'm left alone
Broken wings
A song too sad to sing
Chorus
(Oh) Angela
Please don't go and take my heart
If you're not sure
I couldn' stand the pain
Of living in this world
When every step I take
Would bring me back to you
Girl, you know it's true
What could I do
Like your love, the clouds
In heaven would run dry
And just for you I'd set
The northern sea on fire
The swallows, they would never fly, oh
Ohh hey yeah, Angela
(Repeat Chorus)
Tonight I'm captured by
The magic of your charm
You know I'll stay, and girl
To keep you safe from harm
And hope that love won't pass me by
Ohh ohh, hey yeah
Angela, you know I love you
You know I need you, Angela
Oh I believe, oh I believe
(Repeat Chorus except last line)
(Repeat Chorus, fade)
The song "Angela" by Ric Segreto is a love song that describes the singer's infatuation with a woman named Angela. The singer is "captured" by her charm and she needs him to keep her safe from harm. However, he is unsure whether these words will just pass before the morning comes, hinting at his fear of being rejected.
The singer is laying on a chance and putting all his hopes into this new romance, playing the game of hearts like colors in the past. The chorus pleads for Angela not to take his heart if she's not sure, as he couldn't stand the pain of living in this world without her.
The singer compares the intensity of his love for Angela to the clouds in heaven running dry and setting the northern sea on fire just for her. The swallows would never fly, emphasizing the extent to which he would go for her. The song ends with the singer reiterating his love and need for Angela, hoping that love won't pass him by.
