Dequantes Lamar first considered a career in professional baseball, but in 2008, the Atlanta native issued the single "Stay Down" featuring the Stack Money Boyz. Things came to a halt when he landed in jail for a year on burglary charges, but upon his release in 2011, Quan began to make up for lost time. Hooking up with the Atlanta crew Loyalty Ova Royalties and becoming quick friends with member CEO Teezy came next, but Teezy's untimely death later in the year put a stop to Quan's planned mixtape debut. He would re-emerge a year later on the Think It's a Game label and release the mixtapes I Go in on Every Song plus Still Goin In. The year 2013 began with a tour opening for Trinidad James, along with a guest appearance on Gucci Mane's Trap House 3 album. In the summer, Quan issued the infectious club track "Type of Way," which cracked the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He also became a member of Rich Gang, and co-headlined the 2014 mixtape Tha Tour, Part 1 with Birdman and Young Thug. The tape received widespread acclaim, and the non-album single "Lifestyle" reached number 16 on the Hot 100. Quan released the track "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)" in 2015, and it became his biggest solo hit, reaching number 26.
Rich Homie Quan continued releasing mixtapes, and in 2016 he landed a record deal with Motown. March 2017 saw the release of the single "Replay," which appeared on the Back to the Basics mixtape. Led by the singles "Change" and "34," his debut album, Rich as in Spirit, arrived in March 2018, peaking at number 32 on the Billboard 200. He then put out the EP The Gif, and Coma followed in 2019. Quan resumed releasing solo material in 2021, with the singles "Daily Bread" and "To Be Worried." His EP Family & Mula appeared in 2022. ~ David Jeffries & Paul Simpson, Rovi

Life was a gamble man
You know what I'm sayin'?
Where y'all take a risk everyday
But I ain't trippin'
I just gotta do this
Broad day, hit the curb do your numbers
Shoutout mama, Porshia hit the ground running
Trap spot, through that purse
Every mile you smell that reefer
Mama told me she ain't like me hangin' with them people
Made a fortune, put in 20
Made it flip again
20 bands from the bank, 200 Benjamins
200 bands for some bad, boy you better call me
You haulin' got no mob look at what you caused
Money on the phone
Money calling, yeah I talk to it
Need a new safe, 'cause the money got the wall full
I just spent a day in the Bay, it was all good
Back and count it up by myself before I walk through it
All about my business, and my pocket nutin' but white folks
Money can't by love, 'cause this bitch ain't even my type though
Turn up at the day party, and kill 'em at the night show
Real nigga reunion, I fuck with her so I might do
Rapping, he's a acting dude do it on eyes closed
When robbing was a job, I would do that shit from 9 to 4
My partner drove from Holigrove to L.A. get them jams
And I rebook every number when that money in my hand
Broad day, hit the curb do your numbers
Pick up money
Shoutout mama, Porshia hit the ground running
Trap spot, through that purse
Every mile you smell that reefer
Mama told me she ain't like me hangin' with them people
Made a fortune, put in 20
Made it flip again
20 bands from the bank, 200 Benjamins
200 bands for some bad, boy you better call me
You haulin' got no mob look at what you caused
I just went to court, and the judge let me walk free
Got put my blessing in the hood, I had to walk through it
I could handle conversation quick, like a Hawk fan
Money comma every harder oh yeah I talk numbers
The homie in the cut, finger itching ready off something
If he ain't talkin' money, over hundred it ain't 'bout nothin'
Partner did 10, and he already wanna rob something
Turn that back end by myself, and nah we ain't loss nothin'
For me they clear the room, make some space for when the boss come
Canary yellow diamonds got these niggas actin' cautious
He's scary and he lying I can tell by how he talkin'
VVS and they shinin' I got my number and I'm 'bout to
Broad day, hit the curb do your numbers
Pick up money
Shoutout mama, Porshia hit the ground running
Trap spot, through that purse
Every mile you smell that reefer
Mama told me she ain't like me hangin' with them people
Made a fortune, put in 20
Made it flip again
20 bands from the bank, 200 Benjamins
200 bands for some bad, boy you better call me
You haulin' got no mob look at what you caused
The lyrics to Rich Homie Quan's "Gamble" describe the rapper's experiences and mindset when it comes to taking risks in life. He acknowledges that life is a gamble, but he's not worried about it - he's focused on his own goals and making his fortune. He talks about making money through various means, from picking up cash on the curb to making deals at the trap spot. His mother warns him about hanging out with the wrong people, but he's confident in himself and his ability to succeed. He also recognizes that money can't buy everything, including love. Despite this, he's always hustling and looking for the next opportunity to make more money.
Overall, the song is a reflection of the rap lifestyle and how success is often measured in material wealth. Rich Homie Quan takes risks and makes sacrifices to achieve his goals, but he's never complacent and always looking for more.
