Dequantes Lamar first considered a career in professional baseball, but in 2008, the Atlanta native issued the single "Stay Down" featuring the Stack Money Boyz. Things came to a halt when he landed in jail for a year on burglary charges, but upon his release in 2011, Quan began to make up for lost time. Hooking up with the Atlanta crew Loyalty Ova Royalties and becoming quick friends with member CEO Teezy came next, but Teezy's untimely death later in the year put a stop to Quan's planned mixtape debut. He would re-emerge a year later on the Think It's a Game label and release the mixtapes I Go in on Every Song plus Still Goin In. The year 2013 began with a tour opening for Trinidad James, along with a guest appearance on Gucci Mane's Trap House 3 album. In the summer, Quan issued the infectious club track "Type of Way," which cracked the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He also became a member of Rich Gang, and co-headlined the 2014 mixtape Tha Tour, Part 1 with Birdman and Young Thug. The tape received widespread acclaim, and the non-album single "Lifestyle" reached number 16 on the Hot 100. Quan released the track "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)" in 2015, and it became his biggest solo hit, reaching number 26.
Rich Homie Quan continued releasing mixtapes, and in 2016 he landed a record deal with Motown. March 2017 saw the release of the single "Replay," which appeared on the Back to the Basics mixtape. Led by the singles "Change" and "34," his debut album, Rich as in Spirit, arrived in March 2018, peaking at number 32 on the Billboard 200. He then put out the EP The Gif, and Coma followed in 2019. Quan resumed releasing solo material in 2021, with the singles "Daily Bread" and "To Be Worried." His EP Family & Mula appeared in 2022. ~ David Jeffries & Paul Simpson, Rovi

I be having a lot on my mind right
So I sit back on my bed, and look up at the ceiling
'Cause I feel like, this shit ain't for me
It may seem like life don't love you no more
I done had dreams like that felt so real I thought I was woke
Sometimes I feel like I wanna give up with no hope
I get the picture
I get you niggas
I get money, I get bitches
I get 100's, I get 50's
I get checks over a 20
I get checks buss 'em if they over 20
I'll buss yo bitch, only if she over 20
I got my bitch just in case you niggas creepin'
She'll buss at him, if I hear that nigga creepin'
A couple million (I got)
A couple hunnid thousands in stock nigga
And a couple billions (I got)
A seven year old lil boy these folks don't know (I got)
Problems like they do
Who fucked up? I did
When she asked for money, who asked for custody? (I did, I swear to God I did)
I swear I told my first lil boy he could have whatever (On me)
Million dollar trust fund (on me)
If he wants something (on me)
But they just so young they don't see
They daddy be gone gotta feed they two mouths
That ain't easy
Try to let 'em know it ain't 'bout me
It's about them, gotta let 'em know
Woah woah woah
If you gotta nigga locked up let me hear you say:
Woah Woah woah
If you know a nigga dead let me hear you scream:
Woah woah woah
Lighters up pouring liquor out like:
Woah Woah Woah
Pulled up on them niggas like:
Woah Woah
Fake boy take my alazay, and my bike you gone be like:
Woah woah
Nigga dissin' I'm a have that shit out on my hand screaming like:
Woah woah
She want my ho
Bank account got O's
It may seem like life don't love you no more
I done had dreams like that felt so real I thought I was woke
Sometimes I feel like I wanna give up with no hope
Why does it feel like a nigga fucking with me 'cause of what I do?
I get the picture
I get you niggas
I get money, I get bitches
I get 100's, I get 50's
I get checks over a 20
I get checks buss 'em if they over 20
I'll buss yo bitch, only if she over 20
I got my bitch just incase you niggas creepin'
She'll buss at him, if I hear that nigga creepin'
Ridin round with 20 bags in the trunk
But that ain't none of my business, I got my own problems
My daddy still in the hospital
Just lost my grand-mama (grand-mama grand-mama)
I come from where you don't come from
I from the slums, aka, the fucking jungle
I want that tongue if I hear yo ass mumble
Look about me, go to.com but
Looking for my white Tee
Don't give up just because
It may seem like life don't love you no more
I done had dreams like that felt so real I thought I was woke
Sometimes I feel like I wanna give up with no hope
Why does it feel like a nigga fucking with me 'cause of what I do?
I get the picture
I get you niggas
I get money, I get bitches
I get 100's, I get 50's
I get checks over a 20
I get checks buss 'em if they over 20
I'll buss yo bitch, only if she over 20
I got my bitch just incase you niggas creepin'
She'll buss at him, if I hear that nigga creepin'
In order to get something you ain't never got
You gotta do something you ain't never had to do
Step out the box nigga
But I wouldn't expect you bitch ass niggas to get it
Fuck with us, or get fucked over nigga

The lyrics of Rich Homie Quan's I Get convey his struggle with life's challenges and distractions. The first two stanzas are reflective of his personal, emotional, and mental struggles. He feels like life doesn't love him, and the dreams he's had are so real that he feels they are true. He is aware of the challenges, including the desire to give up with no hope, and the feeling that he is being targeted by other people because of his career.
The third stanza, "I get the picture," is about his accomplishment and success in life, his determination to make it and the fact that he has the financial resources to cope with life's challenges. Quan is aware of the value of money, he works hard to earn it, and he has a tendency to live a lavish lifestyle, and he can buy whatever he wants.
The fourth stanza talks about the issues he faces as a father, with his children's needs, and his responsibilities. He has a son, but he doesn't mention his mother. Moreover, the lines βit's not about me, it's about them, gotta let 'em know" indicate that he is conscious of his responsibilities as a father and willing to take care of his children's needs, and he made it clear that he is doing all that he does for them.
The final verse, βIn order to get something you ain't never got, You gotta do something you ain't never had to do,β is a reflection of his success and his willingness to overcome his struggles. He acknowledges that taking risks and stepping out of his comfort zone was crucial to his success, and he is willing to embrace new challenges to achieve his goals.
