The Final Walk
Richard Einhorn Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
"Deus aeterne, qui absconditorum es cognitor,
qui nosta omnia antequam fiant,
tu scis quoniam falsum testimonium tulerunt
contra me; et ecce morior, cum nihil horum
fecerim quae isti malitiose composuerunt adversum me."
The lyrics are in Latin and are a reference to a passage in the book of Wisdom from the Bible. The passage tells the story of a man who is being falsely accused and sentenced to death. As he is walking to his execution, he cries out to God, calling him "eternal" and the "knower of hidden things". He acknowledges that God knows the truth about the false accusations being made against him, and he laments the fact that he is dying even though he has not done anything wrong.
The song itself seems to be a reflection on mortality and the uncertainty that comes with it. The lyrics suggest that even when we have lived our lives fairly and with good intentions, we may still face death without fully understanding the reasons behind it. The music is haunting and contemplative, with a sense of sadness and resignation that fits well with the theme of death and the unknown. The Final Walk is a powerful and thought-provoking piece that invites reflection on the deeper questions of life and death.
