Richard Gotainer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of Richard Gotainer's Le Béquillard des Bois depict an eccentric and unique character known as the "béquillard" (meaning a limper or a person who walks with a limp) who traverses through the woods in a haphazard manner, shaking and tumbling while carrying his sacks. The béquillard is described as an animal with three legs, who loves to walk in a crooked manner for the love of the bizarre. He walks with a limp, bent over and hunched, and his gait is unsteady, reflecting his passion for the unpredictable.
As the song continues, the béquillard moves towards a location called "Diable Vauvert" (which means the devil's crossing) with the gait of a dahu (a mythical creature that hops). He travels through swirling gusts of air and accepts a "lot of biscornu" (meaning a lot of crookedness) while living life askew. He is described as having hair thrown in haphazard directions and bags filled with a mysterious potion. The béquillard embodies the character of an eccentric person who revels in walking and living life in a peculiar manner.
Overall, the song's lyrics conjure up an image of a unique character who lives life in a crooked manner and embraces the unpredictable. It's an ode to individuals who march to their beat and reject conventional norms.
