Serious
Richard H. Blake Lyrics

I said I don't think I can take it much longer
She said maybe your tabloid should be stronger
Get some serious drugs
Get some serious drugs
Toytown medicine don't make a change
If you want your head rearranged
Get some serious drugs
Get some serious drugs

The trouble with me
I can't give in you see
The trouble with me
I can't give in you see

I'd cut off my hair if you want me to
I'd cut off a finger if it'd get me
Your serious love
I've got serious love
I said I don't think I can much longer
She said maybe your tabloid should be stronger
Get some serious drugs
Get some serious drugs

The trouble with me
I can't give in you see

The trouble with me
I can't give in you see

Overall Meaning

In Richard H. Blake's song "Serious," the singer is struggling to maintain a relationship with someone who seems to require a level of intensity or seriousness that they aren't sure they can provide. The repeated refrain of "get some serious drugs" is the partner's suggestion for how they might fulfill these expectations, indicating that the request for more seriousness is perhaps unrealistic, or at least unattainable through normal means. The singer acknowledges this by noting that "Toytown medicine don't make a change," implying that more extreme measures are required to address this issue.

Despite this, the singer seems hesitant to fully commit to this level of intensity, acknowledging that they "can't give in." The final lines suggest that the singer is willing to make sacrifices for this relationship - "I'd cut off my hair if you want me to / I'd cut off a finger if it'd get me / Your serious love" - but it's unclear whether these are enough to satisfy their partner's demands for seriousness.

Overall, the song seems to grapple with the tension between the desire to please a partner and the limits of what someone can realistically give in a relationship. The partner's request for "serious" drugs takes on a somewhat absurd tone in the song, highlighting the difficulty of meeting unattainable expectations.

@Selendomono I beg to differ. I am really, very, EXTREMELY picky about who portrays G(a)linda. And I had given up hope that there would ever be someone that could pull her off as well as Kristin Chenoweth did, but then I saw a clip of Annaleigh's "Popular". And it was love at first sight. Annaleigh completely put her own spin on the character. But, just like Kristin did, she matured G(a)linda in a completely believable way. And not once did her portrayal come off as snobbish or fake.
