Richard Steighner Lyrics
Damn this mind can wander into
the great beyond, You’re telescope can
see my cerebellum gone
around the rings of Saturn off to
someone else’s solar system
seeking out a planet full of
diamonds or an island full of
scorpions. Yeah I wish it was a
game that I could beat and
fly above it, I could cheat it
like a Game Genie got it from my cousin.
I could jump beyond the chasm
and the boss I push a button
fly me up to the coins up
in the clouds, tell me
I can have em all. Instead of
that I’m lost inside a universe
of free distraction. Gravity has
given up on mutual attraction.
Must be made of plastic, non-ferrous
Like a Cameron Wàiguó rén
made in China speaking Mandarin.
Distraction,
sweet distraction.
Where was I going?
Look how far I’ve come!
Across the sky
like a satellite,
Signal lost
in the starlight.
If you're locked on
Houston would you hold on tight
Don’t let me drift away.
I’m having trouble focusing
and holding conversations that
I know are going nowhere
so I play along with
a sense of optimism triggering
an autistic loss of interest.
Somewhere on the spectrum you can
read emotions wear em like a
badge of honor chip upon your
shoulder like a soldier in the
social order marching forward,
take my word for it
Ain't no rewards if play along,
smile, nod or ramble on,
all the while in my noggin
holding on to Helen Hunt in Twister,
strapped to a piece of leather
staying grounded. Heaven help me.
What’s the point? Oh I found it!
Question: If I’m looking for
a place to land,
and you see a shooting star
would you put your hand up and
pull me in? I took attention for
granted. Interrupted once again,
dammit. Looking for a
sign of life in telescopes.
Scanned it like I’m Galileo
on a rocket ship in transit.
Man it’d be nice to find a
planet where they understand it.
Across the sky
like a satellite,
Signal lost
in the starlight.
If you're locked on
Houston would you hold on tight
Don’t let me drift away
Drift away
on a gamma ray
to a different plane,
anti-gravity.
Drift away
on a gamma ray
to a different plane,
anti-gravity.
Across the sky
like a satellite,
Signal lost
in the starlight.
If you're locked on
Houston would you hold on tight
So I don't drift away.
