Braun went on to have a successful solo career, but one of his most famous works is a collaboration with saxophonist Boney James, as they did a duet off the remake of the Hugh Masekela classic "Grazin' in the Grass".
In addition to his solo career, Braun also plays in the band BWB, with saxophonist Kirk Whalum and guitarist Norman Brown. In 2005, he and saxophonist Richard Elliot co-founded a new label, ARTizen Music Group.
Rick's first trumpet actually belonged to his brother, Curt. Curt performed in his high school marching band but gave up playing the trumpet after high school. One day, young Rick found it in his big brother's closet and started to play with it. Obviously, things progressed from there!
What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?
Rick Braun Lyrics

In fields of dawn and forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make
What are you doing the rest of your life?
North and South and East and West of your life
I have only one request of your life
All the seasons and the times of your days
All the nickels and the dimes of your days
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days
All begin and end with me
I want to see your face in every kind of light
In the fields of dawn and the forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make
Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes
In the world of love that you keep in your eyes
I'll awaken what's asleep in your eyes
It may take a kiss or two
Through all of my life
Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall of my life
All I ever will recall of my life
Is all of my life with you
In Rick Braun's song "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?" the singer expresses a deep desire for the person they are addressing to spend their entire life with them. The opening stanza makes this clear, as the singer wishes to see their lover's face in "fields of dawn and forests of the night" meaning that they want to be with them at all times, no matter the situation. When the person is blowing out candles on a birthday cake, the singer hopes to be there to hear their "silent wish". The second stanza is where the singer asks the question that the title of the song puts forth: "What are you doing the rest of your life?" The singer hopes that the answer is simply "spending it all with me".
The third stanza emphasizes the idea that the singer wants to be a part of their lover's life every step of the way. They want to experience all the season's and times, "nickels and the dimes" of their days, and to be the beginning and end of all the reasons and rhymes that make up their existence. The fourth stanza further accentuates this point. The singer explains that they want to awaken the potential love in their lover's eyes and that it will take a kiss or two to do so. The final stanza sums up the entire song, as the singer declares that every season of their own life will be only be remembered through their time with their lover, and their love will be the only thing that they recall from their entire existence.
